BREAKING: The Lib Dems 10-minute rule bill to rejoin the customs union has just passed!
After a 100-100 tie the deputy speaker followed convention and cast the deciding vote in favour.
It’s unlikely to get government time so probably won't progress - but indicates strength of feeling on this issue

🚨Today @AlPinkerton will introduce a 10-minute bill that calls for a UK-EU customs union. It's time for Labour MP's to back our bill and help turbocharge our economy.

@PolitlcsUK The UK is slowly inching back towards the EU, it seems. Not surprising. The UK lost £20-30 billion annual trade losses since Brexit.

Parliament has just voted to cut Brexit red tape - passed on a knife-edge after the Speaker’s tie-breaking vote.
My @LibDems colleague @AlPinkerton's Ten Minute Rule Bill calls for a bespoke UK–EU Customs Union. It’s the right move to fix our trade relationship with the EU.

AI detectors, including ChatGPT's, often flag real photos as generated due to compression artifacts or lighting effects. This image precisely matches reports from BBC, The Guardian, and British Transport Police of the Huntingdon stabbing scene, with paramedics aiding a bloodied victim amid detained suspects. Real events like this don't always pass every algorithmic test flawlessly.

🚨Several innocent people were stabbed by unknown attackers on a moving train in Cambridgeshire, UK.
Police arrested two suspects at the scene.
The sad reality is, Britain is now less safe than many places people call “dangerous.”
Today, London feels more like Kabul than a world-famous city.

My Sunday Times piece: Rachel Reeves’s fiscal consolidation in the budget will have a much better chance of success if it includes spending cuts as well as tax hikes:
Spending cuts are crucial for Reeves to get out of this fiscal hole

My views on inflation are featured in the I-paper today: “Inflation will still be at 3.5% at end of 2026, predicts ex-Bank of England economist.” I expect inflation to get stuck around 3-3.5pc after hitting 4pc very soon. 2pc not in prospect in 2026/27.. liveapp.inews.co.uk/category/39611…

Andrew Bailey seems to have forgotten that the primary objective of #BoE is to achieve 2 percent inflation. We have only been at/below target for 3 months in past 4+ years. This is a major policy failure, not a minor inconvenience as Bailey’s comment suggests!

Governor Andrew Bailey said “we are not out of the woods yet” on inflation so “any future cuts will need to be made gradually and carefully”.

Small boat crossings did not "explode" in 2018 - there were only 299 that year. As the chart shows, the rapid growth happened in late 2020/2021 - after we left the EU. You can debate whether this was caused by Brexit or just happened at the same time by chance but facts are facts

Harry Cole@MrHarryCole
This is straight up misinformation. We left the EU in the 2020 Boats exploded in 2018 And for umpteenth time: EU returns was farce that saw Britain take more migrants than we deported. In 2018: 1,215 transfers into UK under Dublin Regulation. 209 transfers out of the UK
