RBI/MinofFin should seriously think of another SGB like product that gives the buyer the option to buy and sell Gold with the soverign backing.
Even if the additional 2.5% interest is not there, the long term no cap gains maturity benefits will also encourage people to invest in the instrument as the returns will still beat physical Gold and ETFs.
The soverign backing is the biggest plus for confidence.
The product should be fully backed by physical Gold and Govt should create a Gold lending mechanism to the Gold industry and earn 3-6 pct annually on that gold
it is a win win situation for all
>Investors get a tax free product. Remains liquid if one wants to exit and pay LTCG just like now in sec mkts
>Govt saves on forex/pressure on INR on lower Gold imports due to the lending mechanism and is fully backed so no risk
>Jewellers get access to useable Gold at low borrowing costs

The Gold predictions keep getting higher and higher. Luke Gromen now predicting Gold to hit up to $25,000. "I think it has to happen over the next 5 to 10 years...Gold has outperformed S&P total return over 1, 2, 5, 10 & 20 year basis. Basically, my entire career, I'd have made more money sitting in gold than in owning the S&P 500.
