🔥 𝐇𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 -#WASHOUT featured in @Telegraph 🩸WASHOUT is the largest study to date investigating the management of emergency haematuria with 8,500+ patients across >350 hospitals globally 🔍 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝: 🩻 Patients who did not receive investigations or appropriate treatment were 2.5× more likely to die within three months. 🧬 Approximately one quarter of patients were found to have an underlying cancer. ⏰ For patients with underlying cancer, those having investigations within 48 hours received a diagnosis within one day on average, compared with ~3 weeks for those discharged without investigation. 🏥 Lack of investigation is associated with longer hospital stays. ❓𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: Emergency haematuria is a prevalent urological emergency accounting for at least 15% of all urological emergency admissions in the UK and 10% readmitted within 30 days. Despite this, there are no standardised guidelines for management.
🔑 Prompt investigation is crucial for timely diagnosis and treatment.
