This story is deep… Edoardo Bove scored his first goal last night since returning to football and a group of Roma fans from the London supporters club were there to celebrate the moment with him. 🙏🏽 Edoardo returned to the pitch with Watford last month for the first time since he suffered a cardiac arrest whilst playing for Fiorentina, on loan from Roma back in 2024. He wasn’t allowed to play football in Italy again because of the subcutaneous defibrillator he had implanted but got an opportunity to begin his comeback journey with Watford in the Championship in January. 🤝🏽 "To have the opportunity to live this kind of feeling again is the main reason why I love football, to celebrate with my team, with my fans and my family. “I have to thank everyone for this goal. Watford Football Club requiring a 97th minute equaliser at home and now losing away to statistically the worst team in Championship history is the most Watford Football Club thing in the history of Watford Football Club.

Absolute madness to me that you can finish closer to midtable than the automatic spots, and still go up via a knockout format. Lots of Championship clubs without parachute payments will vote for this out of self-interest, and TV companies want the jeopardy to create more drama and get more views. But it feels artificially manufactured, without considering that football got views in the first place based on it being a serious competition built on sporting merit.

It’s incredible how the far right misunderstand LOTR, a story in which different species: Dwarves, Elves, Man came together and put apart their historic differences in order to defend against Mordor. Against a centralised authoritarian regime, with a subservience to hierarchy, raw power & strength. Hellbent on conforming the world to their power.

It’s always “What about how much money they bring to the economy?” and it’s such bullshit. Tourists don’t come to see them, it’s not like they do meet and greets for £50 at Waterstones. They come to see Buckingham Palace, which would still be there if the monarchy was chopped.

I worry that football is running away from sporting merit, and towards entertainment for entertainment’s sake. Giving a team that finishes 8th over 46 games the chance to win promotion really devalues the league. It’s like saying the Championship’s not good enough to stand up on its own merit, it needs these wacky twists. This is serious competition, that people have trained their whole lives for. Yes, parts of it are less exciting than others, but you need to go through those parts in order for the big Jimmy Glass, Coppinger, Deeney moments to really mean something. If you want uninterrupted drama, watch a soap opera. This is our game and we take it seriously - that’s precisely why those moments matter.
