1. My people good morning. I hope you had enough rest. Today weather sweet abi. Nice. You deserve good things. I want us to gist about the Good Friday service we shall have this evening. What and what will take place in it. Oyá bring chair 🪑.
2. Good Friday is the one day of the year when the Catholic Church does not actually celebrate Mass. It is a somber, quiet day focused entirely on the crucifixion of Jesus. During this service, men are not smiling.
3. The entrance is in silence. There is no entrance hymn. The priest and deacons walk in in total silence and prostrate themselves (lie face down on the floor). It’s a powerful, heavy moment that shows total humility and mourning. When they get to their seats, next thing is "Let us pray."
4. The liturgy of the word takes place which culminates in the Passion reading. After the reading, there are 10 Long Intercessions where the church prays for everyone, from the Pope to people of other faiths, and even people who don't believe in God at all. "Let us kneel. Let us stand." 😊
5. The next is the veneration of the cross. This is the most unique part of the day. A large wooden cross is brought into the church. The priest uncovers it in stages, singing "Behold the wood of the Cross" or "Ecce Lignum Crucis." Then, everyone comes forward one by one. People usually kiss the feet of Jesus on the cross, genuflect, or touch it as a sign of respect and gratitude. It’s very personal and often quite emotional.
6. Since there is no consecration (the part where the bread and wine become the Eucharist) on Good Friday, the church uses hosts that were set aside from the Holy Thursday service the night before. It is a simple, quiet Communion rite.
7. Once Communion is over, there is a final prayer, but no blessing and no dismissal. The priest simply leaves.
The altar is stripped completely bare.
The tabernacle (where the Eucharist is kept) is left open and empty. Everyone leaves in silence.
8. Because the story is not over yet, the liturgy doesn't end with a goodbye. It just pauses until the Easter Vigil on Saturday night.

Evening gist 🔥 🔥
1. Despite the sadness I feel, I'll drop this gist. How did your day go by the way? You have done your best for today. Don't mind what you might have missed, or what you didn't get right. Tomorrow is another day.
2. Tomorrow I'll have to make a 2h30 mins trip to the cathedral in the town here for Chrism mass, from there I'll enter market to buy mango 🥭 with my last card for now. If I perish, I perish 😂😂. What is this Chrism mass all about sef?
3. At work sometimes our bosses call us together for meeting and there is no meat pie or snacks. And it's not as though our bosses will listen to our ideas oh. Something that should have been sent through email, they'll now come and waste our time.
4. I want you to see Chrism Mass as the ultimate team meeting for the local Catholic Church. When you hear local church, it means diocese. Although it usually happens on Holy Thursday morning, many places do it earlier in Holy Week to make travel easier.
5. The main point of the Mass is the blessing of three specific oils. The Bishop doesn't just sprinkle some water, there’s a whole ritual involved. The first oil is the Oil of the Sick (OI). It is used for Anointing of the Sick. It’s about healing and strength.
6. The second oil is the Oil of Catechumens (OS). Wallahi, if your mind went somewhere else when you saw OS, your own don spoil finish. It is used for people about to be baptized. Think of it as spiritual armor for those joining the team.
7. The third is Holy Chrism (SC). It is olive oil mixed with balsam (which makes it smell amazing). The Bishop actually breathes over the jar (symbolizing the Holy Spirit) and it is used for the big-deal moments like Baptisms, Confirmations, and Ordinations 😉. Every parish, chaplaincy and religious houses within the diocese get their sacramental oil from this source. Powerful symbolism.
8. Someone will want to ask me what about Goya Olive oil and other vegetable oil. Goya olive oil is not sacramental oil. Out of popular devotion people use it as a sign of God's protection, favours, healing, etc etc. It works for them, it brings them closer to God, it comforts them. God works through it and with it for their favour. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
9. Chrism mass gist neva finish oh. Check out my next post.

Continuation of our Holy Week gist:
1. Good morning my people. I hope you rested well. Monday don come, everybody dey squeeze face 😂. Don't worry, God will continue to provide for you.
2. We have already talked about Monday, Tuesday Wednesday and (Holy) Thursday of the Holy Week. Make we finish the rest.
3. Good Friday. Chai. This is the most somber day of the week. It’s when Christians remember the trial, crucifixion, and death of Jesus. This is the only day when mass is not said in the church. What we have is Good Friday service.
4. I know that on Good Friday some persons will want to carry meat and fry. Abstain from meat oh. Don't worry, I'll be there to disturb you. I always love the Passion drama that the youths of parishes act. During my time in the seminary, I wanted to act as Jesus. One guy that I vexed said he would act as the soldier who slapped Jesus. Na so I drop the wig, I talk say I no dey do again.
5. If a Nigerian tells you, "wait I dey come." Bruh, just forget it. You will wait and tire. Holy Saturday is the waiting game. It represents the time Jesus spent in the tomb. There aren't usually daytime mass (or service). It’s a day of stillness.
6. The day could have been boring, thank God for Easter vigil wey turn up like second-half Leandro Trossard.
Many churches hold a great mass that starts in total darkness in front of a bon fire 🔥 (we are never beating the cultist allegations 😂 😂) and ends with a ton of candles and bells to announce that the wait is over. On this night, many of our mutuals will be baptised. That "Alleluia" that has been hungrying us to shout, we will shout it wella. Na this night we go know whether our Fada sabi sing or not 😂. We go set am up with Exsultet and the great Alleluia chant. Someone please play me "party scatter" by Fire boy DML.
7. Easter Sunday. The Big Celebration. The party that began in the night continues till morning. This is the day Christians celebrate Jesus rising from the dead. It’s all about new life, hope, and, of course, lots of food.
8. This is only a rundown of events. It is not exhaustive. It's just to give us an idea of what will happen this. But no worry, everyday I will prepare you for the Liturgy of that day will new smoking hot gist 🔥. God bless you.
