A man invented a $2.5 MILLION crime spree, sold it to Hollywood and charged $30,000 per speech to explain how he did it. It was all lies. > Frank Abagnale claimed he spent 5 years as a teenage fugitive. > Impersonating a Pan Am pilot, a Harvard trained doctor and a Louisiana attorney general while forging $2.5 MILLION in bad checks across 26 countries. > Steven Spielberg turned it into a 2002 blockbuster starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. > It became one of the highest grossing films of that year. > Broadway turned it into a musical. > The FBI hired him as a consultant. > AARP named him their official Fraud Watch Ambassador. > He charged between $20,000 and $30,000 per speaking engagement for decades telling audiences how he pulled it all off. > For 40 years nobody seriously questioned any of it. > Then in 2020 a journalist named Alan Logan spent three years pulling every public record prison document newspaper archive and court file he could find. > Pan Am's own security department told a journalist as early as 1978 "This never happened. You don't forget $2.5 MILLION in bad checks." > Prison records showed Abagnale was behind bars for most of the years he claimed to be a fugitive. > The Georgia hospital had no record of him. > The Louisiana attorney general's office had no record of him. > His only confirmed crime was check fraud totalling less than $1,500. > Logan's conclusion the entire story was not embellished but fabricated. > Abagnale had not committed the con by impersonating pilots and doctors. > He committed it by convincing Hollywood, the FBI and the entire world that he had. The most valuable skill Frank Abagnale ever had was the ability to make people so entertained by a story that they forgot to verify it. That skill made him MILLIONS legally.

We're looking to relocate to South or North Carolina. It appears every house I look at down there has paneling. I thought paneling went out in the '70s. Is this truly a thing down south?

@miradasurfs The non reverb variants can be had for a lot less than the reverb variants. On princetons at least, circuit is identical between sf and bf. I occasionally see sf ones priced much less than a new 65 reissue.

A much rare Fender amp-uses a famous AB763 circuit, without the reverb gain stage. Legendary for a pure signal path tone with excellent clarity, a tight low end. A non-reverb ‘65 Deluxe- a very interesting slice of history And I will not say I knew of this amp before… #guitar

@Cernovich Bands used to make money off album sales and now they make fractions of Pennys from streaming. Ticket sales and merch is the only way they make money now. That’s why concerts are so ridiculously expensive.

@OneBadDude_ Then he and his colleagues could no longer fund raise and campaign on election integrity and preventing democrats from ruining what’s left of this country. It’s all a grift. There’s no money for them in actually fixing problems.

@UziCryptoo The solution is as simple as developing a skill that has more value to society than running the register at a fast food restaurant

In my area, In-N-Out and Chipotle are hiring around $20/hour for new workers. Let’s say you even land full-time at 40 hours/week: $20/hour = $800/week That’s $3,467/month before taxes. After just 12% in federal taxes, you’re left with about $3,051/month take-home. Now here’s the reality: Average one-bedroom apartment is around $2,000/month. So even working full-time in fast food, 65% of your income disappears to rent alone. That leaves you with about $1,050/month for: • food • transportation • insurance • phone • savings • emergencies This isn’t a “budgeting problem.” This is a cost of living crisis. Working full time should never mean barely surviving.

@dantypo It’s all stupidly subjective and there are a ton of virtuosos that can’t record a song I care to listen to….And a ton of guys in less popular genres that could play anything that get overlooked, like Roy Clark, or Tony Rice, or the most recorded guitarist in history, Brent Mason

Since Rolling Stone’s current list of “GREATEST GUITARISTS” is being taken to task, I think the problem really comes from skill vs feel. David Gilmour would never put himself ahead of half the people on that list. But most guitar players will tell you that he has something nobody can teach. Eddie Van Halen has been topped as far as amazingly fast and inventive. But you can’t teach the way he played rhythm nor his ability to write a song that appeals to the masses without dumbing it down. But the truth is that if you’re talking strictly technically amazing, almost half on the list don’t belong there. Since they are on there, then mass appeal comes into play. And that’s really where Rolling Stone went wrong.
