'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' showrunner Ira Parker on who his favorite duos are in the 'Game of Thrones' universe
"I do love The Hound and Arya Stark; that was my favorite. Brienne and Podrick, too, and they probably feel the closest to our show. But there’s no comparison as such because there are not a lot of characters like Dunk who are low level, born in Flea Bottom, and then paired with someone like Egg."

@ErinBrodragon@archeohistories medieval Spanish knights, known as caballeros, were integral to the Christian kingdoms of the Iberian Peninsula between the 11th and 15th centuries. They were armored, mounted warriors who faught against Moorish rule, often affiliated with religious military orders
@Flower11731@archeohistories The Fugger foundation. The guy was that rich that his wealth lasts until today. They make a bit money with entrance fees and donations though.
The rent in the german neighborhood of Fuggerei hasn't been raised in 500 years and remains 0.88 Euros for an entire year. Founded in 1521, it is the oldest existing social housing complex in the world.
Established in 1521 by the wealthy merchant Jakob Fugger, the complex was designed to provide stable housing for impoverished Catholic citizens of the city. Unlike charity that fluctuates with politics or generosity, the Fuggerei was built to endure, funded by an endowment that still supports it today.
The rent of 0.88 euros per year is not symbolic or adjusted for inflation. It is the direct modern equivalent of one Rhenish guilder, the amount set more than five centuries ago. In exchange, residents agree to simple conditions: they must live modestly, be Catholic, and pray daily for the souls of the Fugger family. The houses themselves reflect Renaissance practicality - small, orderly, and uniform, they were intended to provide dignity without excess.
Despite wars, plagues, revolutions, and bombings during World War II, the Fuggerei has remained continuously inhabited. Its survival is a testament not only to careful stewardship, but to an idea that housing could be treated as a moral obligation rather than a market commodity.
The Fuggerei still has a curfew. The gates close at 10 pm, and residents returning late must pay a small fee to the night watchman, a tradition that has existed for centuries.

An ancient Iron Gang Chain (100 BC - 50 CE), likely used to restrain multiple individuals, such as slaves or captives, by the neck. This piece provides a direct link to the practice of slavery in ancient Britain.....
Discovered in 1943 during the construction of an airfield near Porth-y-Waen on the Welsh coast, this iron chain gang is a testament to the brutality of the period. The chain is an impressive 6.6kg, and it connects five individual neck shackles, which were used to bind slaves or criminals together. When it was unearthed, the chain's strength was so well-preserved that the workers who found it were able to use it to tow vehicles, a stark and chilling detail that speaks to its durability.
The chain falls within the Late Iron Age, a period of significant social change in Britain, marked by increasing contact with the Roman Empire. While the Roman influence on Britain was growing, the use of chains like this one was likely a Celtic practice, later adopted and adapted by the Romans. The chain features neck-plates designed to link five individuals by their necks, connected by oval and figure-of-eight links. The presence of five individual collars suggests it was used for a small group, likely for transport, public humiliation, or forced labor.
Such chains offer a somber insight into the practice of slavery in ancient times, particularly during the Iron Age and Roman periods, where slaves were a significant export from Britain. The chains, despite their oppressive nature, also demonstrate the quality of metalwork during that era.
Today, this type of artifact is rare, as iron corrodes easily, so its preservation is exceptional. It offers a tangible and sobering glimpse into a brutal aspect of life in Iron Age Britain, a period we often understand only through archaeological remains and Roman accounts.
