We at @centermodhealth have a small but interesting research project idea to pitch examining private equity in healthcare. If you might able to provide some modest funding for this work ($5K), please get in touch.

@Pdorrestein1 @drchrispook If one does reify components of the exposome, I think you can't overcome the objection that we outline at the beginning of the piece. So I wouldn't say we are 'annoyed,' but just that we take that objection seriously.

@Pdorrestein1 @drchrispook Thanks for reading the article! Note that we argue that having more detail is definitely welcome and even necessary for the division of labor. That is, as long as one is not reifying air quality analysis.

This is a really necessary commentary and doesn't just apply to the exposome. There is far too much 'Omics creep. Existing and functional definitions are being comrpomised by some researcher's compulsions to garnish their work with buzzwords. ehp.niehs.nih.gov/doi/10.1289/EH…

In our new paper, we tackle this objection to exposomics head-on by reconceptualizing the field. We define it as: a research program in environmental health aimed at enabling a comprehensive and discovery-driven approach to identifying environmental determinants of human health.

We also draw from the virtues of productiveness and integrity to provide practical-ethical guidance. By focusing on the purpose and principles of exposomics, we attempt to empower and guide exposomics towards scientific and technological progress.

The thought pattern "exposome research, exposome, study of all exposures throughout the lifespan" should be replaced by "exposomics, research program in environmental health, enabling comprehensive discovery-driven analysis"

Are the exposome and exposomics valuable concepts? If the exposome is just the environment, exposomics would just be the study of environmental health. Then, both concepts would be redundant neologisms, since we already have 'environment' and 'environmental health research.'
