Honouring 𝗠𝘀. 𝗞𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘇𝘂𝗺𝗱𝗮𝗿-𝗦𝗵𝗮𝘄 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗦𝗔𝗛𝗜𝗧 Global 𝗜𝗖𝗢𝗡 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰-𝟮𝟱
Two years ago, we started Sahit with one ambition: create a platform that facilitates equality, equity and inclusion.
Supported by Indian National Science Academy - INSA @insa_academy , Miranda House, @UnivofDelhi and ASSOCHAM, our first goal: getting more women in the formal workforce. This is crucial to competing with large global economies and achieving ambitious growth targets. We need female heroes and role models to drive systemic change, challenge structural barriers, inspire the next generation, and redefine what leadership looks like in India. That is why we celebrate women leaders, achievers and changemakers who are not just breaking barriers, but building pathways, reshaping systems, and paving the way for the next generation.
It gives me immense pleasure to recognize Dr. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw (@kiranshaw) as a 𝗦𝗔𝗛𝗜𝗧 Global 𝗜𝗖𝗢𝗡 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 for her extraordinary leadership, pioneering spirit, and transformative impact as a trailblazing entrepreneur in India’s biotechnology sector. As the Founder and Executive Chairperson of @Bioconlimited, she has not only built a globally respected enterprise but also redefined the role of Indian innovation in advancing affordable healthcare solutions.
She has created thousands of jobs, nurtured countless startups, and put Bengaluru on the global biotech map. Her leadership extends far beyond the boardroom, through the Mazumdar Shaw Medical Foundation, she’s made world-class cancer care accessible to all, embodying the spirit of seva (service) alongside enterprise.
As a fearless pathbreaker, she didn't just build a company; she built an industry. When the world said India couldn't manufacture complex biologics, she pioneered the country's first indigenous insulin and slashed cancer drug prices by over 90%. In doing so, she transformed India from a dependent consumer into a global hub for affordable, life-saving healthcare, proving that commercial success and social impact are not opposites but allies.
A vocal advocate for women in #STEM, she has consistently used her platform to mentor the next generation of female scientists and entrepreneurs, urging them to “think big, fail fast, and never settle.”
@Sahit_Platform honours Ms. Shaw not just as a nation-builder who seamlessly blends profit with purpose, innovation with inclusion, and ambition with empathy. Her unparalleled contribution to India’s biotech sovereignty, unwavering commitment to affordable healthcare, and her role as a torchbearer for women-led development, we proudly confer upon her the SAHIT Global Icon Award.
She was formally recognized on the 27th March, 2026, by @DrJitendraSingh, Union Minister of State (Independant charge) Department of Science & Technology, Government of India (@IndiaDST) and Earth Sciences & me at the SAHIT Summit & Awards, Delhi.
