Jill and I are shocked by the sudden passing of Lindsey Graham. Lindsey and I served together in Congress for over a decade, and worked closely on many issues throughout the years. We traveled the world together as members of the Senate Foreign Relations committee. We disagreed often, and sometimes loudly. Lindsey and I did agree on the profound importance of public service. Like me, he loved the Senate as an institution, even with all its flaws and complexities. To his family, his staff, his constituents in South Carolina, and everyone who loved him: Jill and I are keeping you in our prayers.

Sen. Lindsey Graham has died at 71. FBI is now helping investigate. FBI Director Kash Patel just said the Bureau is assisting local cops with the probe into the South Carolina senator’s death. Graham passed Saturday night after what his office called a “brief sudden illness,” right after he got back from Ukraine. EMS was called to his D.C. place for cardiac arrest. This is a big one. Graham was in the Senate since 2003 — a major voice on foreign policy, Ukraine aid, Israel, and national security. His seat was up for re-election, so South Carolina will now hold a special election. Expect a messy GOP fight to replace him. Whether the FBI step-in is just standard procedure for a sitting senator or something more, we’ll see. Tributes coming in fast from both parties. Not every American is spineless, but this country sure acts like it. We bomb and invade nations that never attacked us, spill our blood and billions to “protect” foreign borders, then pat ourselves on the back. Meanwhile, right here at home: millions have no real health insurance, childcare is a luxury, and we let veterans rot on waiting lists after they risked everything in wars that weren’t ours. We scream “pro-life” and ban abortions, then the baby is born and we tell the mother: “You’re on your own, bitch. No healthcare, no support, figure it out.” That’s not pro-life. That’s pro-birth and anti-child. This place is corrupt to the core. Leaders get rich, corporations get richer, and working people get screwed. We talk big about freedom while chaining ourselves with debt, medical bankruptcies, and endless foreign entanglements. I’m done pretending. This isn’t bravery. This is cowardice dressed up as patriotism. If we don’t wake the hell up and put America first — our people, our borders, our veterans, our families — then this country will collapse under its own hypocrisy. And honestly? It’ll deserve it.

I live near the small town where Lindsey grew up. It’s a quiet, decent place filled with good people. He came from that world—honest, hardworking folks. There was a time when he wasn’t what he’ll be remembered for. He once claimed to stand for our country. While I strongly disagreed with him and believe his actions helped destroy lives and livelihoods, I take no pleasure in tearing him down now. He knew what he was doing wasn’t right. That’s on him. But he didn’t wreck the village—Trump did. One man can ruin an entire community, and the world cheers when the damage is done. We’ve become a nation of ravagers who no longer deserve the freedoms we claim to cherish.

With so much going on I don’t want us to lose sight of an important issue. Abortion bans continue to negatively impact women across this country thanks to Susan Collins. Lauren Miller was 12 weeks pregnant with twins when she found out that one of the twins had trisomy 18, a condition that makes the fetus unlikely to survive to birth. Fetal reduction was the best option to give her second fetus a fighting chance.
