@alandownie Tanked career to have a baby, we have more joy and less time. Thinking of getting out of tech into behavioural science.

@alandownie Glad you are getting through a stormy patch, you were extremely helpful to me and I will always appreciate it. You are a good person dealt a bad year, those two things are separate from eachother.

People with autism less likely to succumb to bystander effect, research finds
Study points to the benefits of having neurodivergent people in the workplace
A well-established psychological theory states that most of us are less likely to intervene in a bad situation if other people are present, and this 'bystander effect' also applies to workplace settings. However, new research shows that people with autism are less likely to be affected by this social contagion than neurotypical people. They are less likely to stay silent in the face of gross misconduct or even just everyday mistakes, pointing to the positive aspects of autism and how organizations can benefit from hiring more neurodivergent people, findings reveal.

@amyjccuddy When I moved back to country Victoria, Australia I found no one asked me. Everyone assumes because I am a mother that I don’t work. Most frequent question I get is “do you think it’ll rain” or something child related. I actually miss it.

@dave__whiteside 🙌 still waiting for my 4.5yr old to sleep through the night so we take shifts. My partner couldn’t get back to sleep if he did the early morning shift so he did the late night shift.
I drink lots of water and drink chai. Both of us don’t drink coffee.
English

A question for my fellow non-coffee drinkers who are also parents:
How did you tackle the lack of sleep in the first few weeks of parenting? Did you change anything up to get some extra boosts of energy in the early days?
Our due date is today and I’m taking copious notes.

We ran a "Phone Check" at a @ycombinator event last night for ~150 founders in San Francisco.
Here's how it went: tinyurl.com/yd5zbjs8

@NWischoff You should look at Australia, apparently wanting a valuation of any kind is too grandiose for a non tech female founder.

Met a non-tech founder of an AU startup. Used an offshore team to build a prototype of an app to help hospitals. She seems top-notch, has made big progress on getting research grants, hospital trial partners and an impressive advisory board…
English

@bigyahu Tech-phillic customer, are you anti her industry or her? She built a product, managed devs, onboarded partners & advisors. I’m still confused by the point of taking down someone with ambition. Feels like a car dealer trying to get a lower valuation during a trade-in walk around.
English

@SairEB You mean Instant? I didn’t get pitched so all I know is what I read in the press, but seems like they have everything that she lacks: mad dev skills, rapid customer and rev growth at low cost, selling to a customer which is tech-philic and unregulated unlike health.

@ElaineStead Get CFA to assess the risk. I’d rather a house standing after a bushfire than pine trees.

@sophwith_ Creates community when presenting on relatable social topics like neurodiversity. I don’t like the concept of talking with everyone listening without a live feedback loop. Chat provides an outlet for others to share experiences & insight without derailing the flow of a talk.
English

@emilyscasey Continued risk aversion with the usual subconscious discriminatory undertones.

@HowtoADHD I look forward to the many updates and skipped versions. Version 12 followed by 14 and none of us will notice because attention to detail…..🤷🏼♀️
English

@emilyscasey I have a memory of a fish so I used to do this all the time at work when I would look at my confluence pages and find a super organised document or diagram that I needed. My present self would openly appreciate my organised past self.

@NWischoff We have set our son up but we worked 10-12hrs/day & occasional weekends for 4-5 years at a company with great share value until we both burnt out. We could have achieved generational wealth if we stayed but modest financial independence & living life was the right choice for us.

@lizgiorgi Both male and female superiors who f***ked me over are now at Google in very cushy jobs. I started my own tech start up to help identify these people through communication analytics. They may not pay but I will help others avoid it happening to them.
