✅ 97% of attendees agreed they learnt something they could apply directly to their clinical practice. For us, that’s the measure that matters most. Horizons in Intestinal Failure, Rehabilitation & Home Parenteral Nutrition is designed to deliver practical, multidisciplinary learning that clinicians can take back to their patients immediately. Now in its 28th year, the course brings together experts across medicine, surgery, dietetics, pharmacy, psychology and nursing, alongside the invaluable patient perspective. Some of last year’s feedback included: 💬 “All sessions were excellently delivered, well rounded and most importantly very practical.” 💬 “The best thing about this course is the variety of clinicians speaking from doctors, surgeons, dietitians and psychologists all providing their own perspectives.” 💬 “I found the talks excellent and informative; it sets the bar very high for a course.” 💬 “Hearing the patient perspective was really thought provoking. The real-life experience!” 💬 “Everything was absolutely amazing… can’t thank you enough.” 📅 Horizons in Intestinal Failure, Rehabilitation & Home Parenteral Nutrition 2026 🗓️ 29 September – 1 October 2026 📍 Hybrid – Royal College of Nursing, London & Online Find out more and register here ⬇️ stmarksacademicinstitute.org.uk/courses/horizo… @simongabe @AlisonCulkin @ACPGBI @BAPENUK @BDA_PENG @NNNGUK @AuSPENfeed @ESPENorg @bpnginfo @BritSocGastro @IrSPEN @SASPEN1 @LNWH_NHS

🧠🦠 Refractory disorders of gut–brain interaction (DGBI) are common, resource-intensive, and frequently challenging to manage in routine practice. When symptoms persist despite first and second-line therapies, a gastroenterologist-only model often falls short. Drawing on real-world experience from this UK neurogastroenterology centre, this review sets out a practical multidisciplinary framework integrating gastroenterology, specialist nursing, dietetics, psychology and psychiatry to deliver structured, biopsychosocial care for patients with refractory DGBI. fg.bmj.com/content/early/… @PhilSmithIsBack @OTavabie @dr_aditi_kumar @TrevorTabone @eathar_s @IrenePerezMD @KGananandan @zare_benjamin @medicalreg @dtleiberman

In major European economies – such as the UK, France and Germany – over 75% of people with fatty liver disease (MASH) remain undiagnosed. Without urgent action, the prevalence of advanced liver disease could see a 40% increase by 2030. This was a key focus of my meeting with the @imperialcollege team and @EASLedu leadership today in London 🇬🇧. I’m looking forward to our first Pan-European report on steatotic liver disease to map prevalence, early detection and care models – so countries can scale their response to match the magnitude of a challenge costing European health systems ~€35 billion each year in direct medical expenses. With Imperial’s designation as a @WHO Collaborating Centre on steatotic liver disease in its final stage, @WHO_Europe gains a trusted strategic partner to drive evidence into policy and real-world impact.

In #FG this month: 🥗📘 Nutrition remains a core but often under appreciated part of inflammatory bowel disease care. This guideline review summarises the updated ESPEN recommendations on clinical nutrition in IBD, covering malnutrition risk, obesity, enteral and parenteral nutrition, and the evolving evidence around diet and the microbiome. 🧠 A clear message emerges, no single diet fits all, and multidisciplinary, dietitian supported care with individualised planning is essential for both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. @PhilSmithIsBack @OTavabie @dr_aditi_kumar @TrevorTabone @eathar_s @IrenePerezMD @KGananandan @zare_benjamin @medicalreg @dtleiberman @ESPGHANSociety @BSPGHAN @BAPENUK @BDA_Dietitians @bda_gastro @BritSocGastro @BSGTrainees

I would like to say thank you to everyone who supported me in the @RCPhysicians election - your encouragement, advice and frank conversations gave real purpose to my campaign. I’m disappointed that I didn’t do better. @Mumtaz_Patel_1 has a strong mandate to lead the college and take things forward. This week I’m back to @croydonhealth as on call cardiologist and we’ve got plenty to do with @medshronline global health programs Thank you all very much

Heartfelt thanks, @drasifqasim, for running such a strong campaign for RCP President. Desperately disappointed you were unsuccessful - yet you inspired & gave me such hope, and continue to do so. Here's to genuine leadership, to standing up for doctors & excellence in medicine.
