Journo request: am in discussions with vet about when to put down my elderly & fading cat, & was shocked today to be told he "wasn't a person". I know she was trying to reassure, but especially in light of my work on environment & climate change that framing feels so wrong...1/2

I'm in the middle of deciding on a new business name and I'd like some feedback please. If I was to include the words 'Blue Lamp' in my name, in terms of genre, what associations would you make with that?

@wblau Would you name any existing news organisations as good role models for others, please?

What if news organisations would no longer view climate change only as 'a topic' they need to 'cover' better but rather as the systemic context of everything else that happens?

@SallyMossEd Congratulations, Sally! 'Giving' is an interesting issue. Much of what we do today is 'taking', especially taking from the environment. I am currently reading Amitav Gosh's 'The Nutmeg's Curse. Parables for a Planet in Crisis.' The nutmeg is a perfect metaphor for taking.

@lukefinleyedit I agree. For me, books are made to be read and circulated rather than hoarded and admired. I say that in full knowledge of how tempting it is to hoard & admire them! (And in full knowledge that an itinerant life has shoved me over to e-books - which mostly can't be circulated...)

@MaliniDevadas Spent a day learning to steer a narrowboat up and down a beautiful stretch of canal - turning, passing, mooring up and so on. For someone who normally spends most of her hours at a screen or just taking a walk on solid ground, this was a stretch - but a good one 😊

@EditorSpice Decarbonisation can seem dry at first - but then we remember that everything we are and love depends on this process of change, and that does put a new slant on things! Might as well bring all of ourselves, including our imaginations and our funny bones, to the challenge.

@SallyMossEd I remember having quite a nice discussion along these lines a while ago :) The thread as a whole is worth a look too. twitter.com/orridge_anna/s…

@alicebell @annajanejoyner I particularly like the Greenpeace sitcom idea. I think the politics of small activist/community groups are incredibly fertile ground for comedy. A bit like Detectorists, but with homemade placards and truly awful community engagement ideas involving interpretive dance.

It's very interesting to me to see the full spectrum of opinions on the late night US comedy evening on climate change. Is it belittling? Is it the perfect way to get people to engage without frightening or alienating them? I'm honestly not sure.

@orridge_anna I think *not* doing comedy about climate is a form of denial. Climate breakdown is tragic, but climate *action* and cultural shift are absolutely the kind of messy human endeavours that call for comedy. Comedy (done well) teaches us about absurdity, helps us stay sane, and more.

@SallyMossEd @The_CIEP This is important work indeed. And I couldn't agree more with your statement, 'what keeps me going is the knowledge that nature is powerful: every positive contribution will harness a profound regenerative force. So let’s see what we can do!' Thank you, Sally

Due to other commitments I was unable to attend many of the CIEP conference sessions. I’m looking forward to watching the recordings later on. From my Twitter feed it looks like I’m in for a treat! #CIEP2021
