Case Summary Status as of May 2026: Doris Coulson vs. Joseph Schwartz 1. Final Judgment Standing The $18.6 million default judgment awarded to the Coulson family in 2020 remains legally valid. It was issued after Joseph Schwartz and his company failed to properly defend against allegations of severe neglect leading to Doris Coulson's death. 2. Status of Appeals The case is not currently under active appeal to overturn the verdict. A 2021 attempt by Schwartz to appeal was dismissed by the Arkansas Court of Appeals as premature. Since then, the judgment has stood as the final legal word on the matter. 3. Collection & Enforcement Issues The primary hurdle is "stalled enforcement." The family has been unable to collect any of the awarded damages because: •Schwartz relinquished his Arkansas properties before they could be seized. •His complex web of assets in other states remains difficult for private investigators and legal teams to access. 4. Impact of the 2025 Presidential Pardon In early 2025, Joseph Schwartz received a presidential pardon for federal criminal tax charges. •Legal Distinction: The pardon only applies to his criminal tax convictions; it does not erase the private civil judgment owed to the Coulson family. •Practical Impact: Advocates and journalists (notably at ProPublica) have reported that the pardon removed federal pressure on Schwartz, making it even harder for the family to track his finances for civil recovery. Summary Conclusion: While the Coulson family "won" their legal battle, the case remains an example of the difficulties in collecting civil judgments against individuals who use corporate restructuring and high-level legal protections to shield their assets.

There was a machinery working to shorten his punishment. That machinery is trump
Sammi🦋@StoriesBySammi

She spent her whole career as a nurse racing down hospital hallways doing CPR. When she retired, she trusted a nursing home to take care of her. They weren’t supposed to give her solid food. They did. Doctors found scrambled eggs in her lungs. Her name was Doris Coulson. Her family sued for wrongful death. The owner never showed up to contest the case. A judge awarded them nearly $19 million. He never paid. While the family waited, that same owner was spending more than $1 million lobbying the president of the United States. It worked. Trump pardoned him. The White House called his prosecution “an example of over prosecution.” A top DOJ official declared him “free to rebuild.” His name is Joseph Schwartz. Prosecutors say he still has $58 million in assets. None of it is in his own name. Doris’s daughter Amanda fought for that judgment for years. Amanda has since died. Her family still hasn’t seen a dollar. When Schwartz briefly returned to prison on a separate state fraud charge, a lawyer for the family raced to serve him with a subpoena - one last shot to locate his assets and force payment. He was released within three weeks. The subpoena never reached him. There was a machinery working to shorten his punishment. There was nothing to help his victims. What do we call a system where a man can owe $19 million to a grieving family, spend $1 million lobbying a president, walk free — and still can’t be found to serve a subpoena?

Trump’s FBI kicked in her door. Took her phones. Took her laptops. Took everything. Hannah Natanson just took a Pulitzer Prize. You cannot intimidate the truth out of a journalist. You just make them more dangerous. Never stop connecting the dots.

In July, the White House said the new ballroom would cost $200 million. Privately funded. Not a dollar from taxpayers. October: $300 million. December: $400 million. This Monday, Senate Republicans tucked $1 billion in taxpayer money for the ballroom into a $72 billion ICE and CBP reconciliation bill. Here is what my investigation found🧵

ICE tackle man working to pavement—sit on his neck with full body weight over 2 minutes. "He probably can't breathe!" man yells. "Get off him!" "I'm an American citizen... why is nobody helping? Say something!" Agents pepper spray a mother and daughter—so neighbors fired back spraying water with garden hoses. Incident occurred in Bell Gardens, California.

🚨BREAKING: ICE agents were caught on video illegally detaining a U.S. citizen in Holtsville, Long Island. They boxed his car in, after racially profiling him, and demanded that he prove his citizenship… without a warrant, without probable cause, and without any lawful basis to stop him in the first place. In the video, the man sums up the situation saying: “this is some bullshit… I’m good to go, right?” And he’s right to question it, because what’s happening here isn’t a routine stop, it’s a constitutional violation. Under the Fourth Amendment, law enforcement cannot stop or detain someone without reasonable suspicion of a crime. Boxing in a car is not casual, it’s a seizure, which means they needed legal justification. They didn’t have one. And then they demanded proof of citizenship from a man who is a U.S. citizen, on U.S. soil, based on nothing more than how he looked. That’s racial profiling, and it a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. Federal agents do not get to target people based on race or ethnicity, and then force them to prove they belong here. Then, after detaining him and violating his rights, they just walk away toward their cars like nothing happened. No accountability, no acknowledgment that they had just unlawfully seized someone. Because that’s what ICE agents do everyday.

🚨ICE/Border Patrol agents are believed to have left a dog locked inside a car in California. Community members were told Border Patrol had just taken six people from a Chula Vista mall parking lot… and when they went to the parking lot, they found an unattended vehicle with a dog still trapped inside. Even in mid-70 degree weather, a locked car can become dangerous fast. Temperatures inside can rise quickly, turning a situation life-threatening in minutes, not hours. So, what exactly is the standard here? Because if an operation is moving fast enough to detain multiple people, but not careful enough to ensure an animal isn’t left behind in a sealed vehicle, that’s negligence. And the bigger question isn’t just what happened in one parking lot… It’s how often this is happening during ICE/Border Patrol operations that move through communities and take people without warning. How many animals are being left in cars, inside homes, or even on the street in the process?
