State government can use police powers to ban certain foods with certain ingredients in the name of public health and safety , but not to protect children? Raylee’s Law would have prevented a guardian who has a current, active CPS investigation from removing their child from school (public view). That’s it. And only if the investigation was initiated from a mandatory reporter in compliance with state law and only if the report was initiated before intent to transfer to another institution or manner of education was declared. Last night’s amendments were simply poison pills meant to kill the bill and prevent a vote on the true measure. Disappointing.

Senate Republicans passed a bill out of committee that would strip all requirements that homeschool instructors teach math, science, reading, or even have a GED. Minority Lead Woelfel moved that the Senate reject the bill outright, but the GOP supermajority voted to progress it.

The answer to the debate on Hope and the Budget is simple: growth. We have to grow. We need to close a datacenter. Cutting is not a path to prosperity. These questions begin to vanish if you have more revenue. That's why TEAM WV is so important. We MUST get that done.

Talking with Sen. Rupie Phillips while sitting in on MetroNews Midday with @DaveA70... Rupie (paraphrased): if this was personal against Morrisey, I would have created a resolution for a recall. That brings up an interesting question. Aside from the contentious relationship the legislature has with the Governor - a better relationship might curb these types of movements - would we be here had the Governor had a majority victory and not a plurality in the @WVGOP primary? If not a longer residency requirement, should a runoff mechanism for primaries be in place? What say you?
