@kellakelWV 8 GW is much larger than anything now operating. Meta has a 5 GW campus under development in Louisiana but it is 2 GW in its first phase and plans to scale up later. Similar scaling up strategy for a project near Pecos, TX that plans to reach 7.6 GW.

@MichaelGiberso3 I guess the 8 GW estimate is one part of my expectation tempering. Do any data centers with 8 GW of capacity currently exist? Is it a feasible goal (genuinely asking) I read that by 2030, 1 in 5 data centers are estimated to exceed 1 GW.

@kellakelWV The ~200 data centers in Loudon County totaled about 4.1 GW of capacity in 2024; the new large Monarch project in Mason County is ultimately planned to be 8 GW. It isn’t surprising that a much larger project would yield more tax revenue.

@DelegateDaniel The high end of that, $1.3 billion for 200 data centers, is what you estimate for a single site on the calculator.

@DelegateDaniel From what you sent: Data centers pay nearly half of Loudoun County’s total property tax revenues (real property taxes on land/buildings + personal property taxes on computer equipment). This totals roughly $1.1–1.3 billion annually in recent/proposed years,
