@SeenMikeRoss @libdembounce It's quite simple. Privatisation with lots of competition = good for consumer. Privatisation without competition (ie one train provider for a route) = very bad for consumer.

@libdembounce The old "X didn't work because it was the wrong sort of X" argument. Nah, I don't accept that. By what metric is privatised rail better than nationalised rail was?

as soon as british rail gets the slightest bit of private competition rail fares look like this yet people still think nationalisation is the answer...

Hugh, you're young and you have a lot to learn. Your first lesson is not to assume someone thinks something and to insult them on the back end of your own assumption. Especially when that person you insult is both far larger than you and also floats in the same circles. Keep your mouth clean and learn this lesson. The second order consequences of not learning it, isn't particularly good. I didn't suggest they would win it. I simply pointed out a fact that Reform clean sweeped it at the local elections so your entire post which seems to imply Labour would clean up in the by-election, is just misguided.
Hugh Anthony@TheHughAnthony

@MrHreviews Extremely unwinnable and you’re a moron to think Restore will clear it. Just keep Burnham out, that is what matters.

@anonanglo @SikoBeanis @TheHughAnthony @MrHreviews Restore are not well known enough to beat the mayor of Greater Manchester in Greater Manchester. The party is 4 months old. It's either going to Labour or Reform. So either Burnham fails or Reform fails. Pick one.

@anonanglo @TheHughAnthony @MrHreviews I think letting their best people show the country they can't even get elected in their own home constituency would be far more powerful than Burnham being PM and doing 3 years of damage. But I see where you're coming from.

@LillyC076 @FrankHighgate Many Restore supporters just don't trust Farage, which is fair enough. They don't think Farage would deliver. But here, we know what Burnham is likely to do when he gets parachuted into the PM role - and it seems far worse than what Farage might do.

@SamBrowning27 @FrankHighgate If only the other Restore supporters had your brain cells, and could actually work this simple equation out for themselves.Sadly Roopy is deranged also, he’ll see this as a revenge opportunity for Reform.

This by-election is a chance to gain huge national attention. All eyes will be on it because of Burnham. If Restore can select an exceptional local candidate (which they can) and outperform expectations (which they inevitably would) then it’s a big morale boost. Reform are not our friends, quite the opposite. Reform will not save this country, far from it. We owe them absolutely nothing. If Rupert decides to go ahead, then we should throw everything at it.
Rupert Lowe MP@RupertLowe10

Ladbrokes have Restore Britain as third favourite in Makerfield ahead of the Greens, Tories and Lib Dems. Interesting.

@anonanglo @TheHughAnthony @MrHreviews Disagree here. Burnham could turn the tide for Labour, or so they believe. It's imperative that Burnham loses. If he does lose, this is good for the entire right wing. It sends a message that nobody wants the uniparty anymore and people are seeking alternatives.

@TheHughAnthony @MrHreviews Reform beating Andy is not good for Restore. Reform gain traction, morale, and attention with the specific story of beating a potential Labour PM. Labour get to retain Burnham's aura of support in the country/party, thus extending their legitimacy, since he hasn't proven failure.

@SamBrowning27 @FrankHighgate Why do we need to keep him out exactly? Burnham's about the same politically as Starmer, big zionist so he'll have the same problems with the Labour left and he has major grooming gang baggage.

@SamBrowning27 @FrankHighgate And when Burnham just goes for a different seat, we're supposed to step aside then too? No Reform aren't our friends they certainly won't step aside in Great Yarmouth for us.

@5DPigeon @FrankHighgate He is popular within the Labour party. They think he will be the one to save them. If he loses the by-election, it sends them a message that the country does not share the sentiment, which will spur on the entire right wing, not just Reform.

@Experiment31649 @SamLovesEngland I support Restore but also support tactical voting where appropriate. Given that Burnham will likely be parachuted into the PM role and could get the party to rally behind him, I feel that this occasion is appropriate for a tactical vote.

@5DPigeon @FrankHighgate This is only about voting for whomever can keep Burnham out of Westminster. Burnham will be popular there - the right can't afford to split for this particular by-election.

@Experiment31649 @SamLovesEngland This is only about keeping Burnham out. Burnham could possibly turn things around for Labour's popularity. If he fails to get a seat in his back garden, Labour will reduce to dust in 2029. I'm a Restore supporter but now is not the time for this. They risk losing credibility.

@SamBrowning27 @SamLovesEngland Absolutely not. Burnham/Starmer same difference. 97% white right vote. It's ideal. We'll get these same splitting excuses ever time, have to do it at some point.

@Experiment31649 @SamLovesEngland This is Burnham's back garden. Restore are nowhere near as known as Burnham is there. I think it is simply crucial for the entire right wing that Burnham loses this election. Labour can't be given any momentum. As a Restore supporter, it's much better Reform win here than Labour.

@SamLovesEngland Or Restore replicate Great Yarmouth. They made the right call on 7 May not to run everywhere, so if they decide to go, they think they can win and I'll support them.

@nonregemesse Agreed. I'm a Restore supporter and I think it's so stupid if they contest this by-election. If Burnham fails to get this seat, it's a victory for the entire right wing. It would cut the head off the snake. It is simply not worth it for Restore to risk their credibility so early.

@SamBrowning27 @GregClinker @Alexarmstrong Not really If the sentiment of the country is to out Starmer then the constituents of Makerfield have the best vote in the country A vote for Burnham all but guarantees Starmer goes Also having your local MP as PM is advantageous

When the Makerfield by-election takes place, electorate will be considering this: “does Burnham actually care about my seat or does he want a job in Downing Street in London?” He’s not running for Makerfield, he’s running for Starmer’s job and quitting as their mayor to do so. Many people will see this as totally shameless and desperate of a Labour Party that seemingly hasn’t elected any talent to the House of Commons.

@GregClinker @Alexarmstrong He is trying to get the MP job to represent Makerfield, except it's because he clearly wants the bigger job - so won't have any time for Makerfield. Can you not see that this is a bad strategy?

@neal_preshner @ZiaYusufUK Do you think that Reform owe the Tories anything? "Deliberately installing" means, in this scenario, just standing candidates (as all major parties do).

@ZiaYusufUK Whereas you DELIBERATELY installed a far left government in a failed attempt to destroy the Tories which will take a decade to recover from and can’t even begin until 2029. What goes around comes around, enjoy.

This is incredible. In Worcestershire, the Tories have teamed up with the Greens to topple the minority Reform administration and replace it with a Green-led rainbow coalition. Read that again. This is who the Tories are when you elect them. Open borders green lunatics. Just as they colluded with Labour to try and cancel elections for millions in places like Essex (where they were then demolished), they will tirelessly against secure borders, law and order and all the things their former voters wanted from them. That’s why they’re headed for oblivion.
