@MikeWingerii I would pound the like button a thousand times. Thank you, Mike. I have cringed at so many Bible studies where this line gets rolled out!!!!

When it comes to understanding the Bible, people often make the mistake of starting with the question of “How does this passage apply to my life today?”
I say this is a mistake not because we want to apply the Bible to our lives but because we skip completely past understanding and just try to launch into application.
I have seen this in small groups over and over again. I ask the group, “what do you think this passage is saying?” and someone replies “I need to do or believe such and such in my life when I face such and such circumstances.”
Notice how easy it is to actually skip right past understanding on our rush to application. If we make this mistake over and over again we will likely get really weird with the Bible. It becomes a launchpad for a rotating series of pre-chosen applications that we have ready to drop on top of a passage, while actually obscuring the very meaning of the passage itself.
We don’t end up following a normal study path.
Step 1: Reading
Step 2: Thinking
Step 3: Interpreting (which involves a lot)
Step 4: Applying
Instead, we end up with.
Step 1: Reading
Step 2: Applying
Step 3: Applying
Step 4: Applying
But what are we even applying? Some passages are immediately easy to apply, most are not. If we don’t understand the passage yet, but jump to application, we are literally forced into making something up.
Bible study tip: Don’t apply right away.
As always, I highly recommend gathering a list of questions about any given passage, long before trying to apply it, and letting that keep you grounded as you study.

@MikeWingerii Always a Bible Story favorite for left handed souls

@MikeWingerii More or less. I also throw lefty, but all hitting is right.

@MadScientistFF Depends on how cooked. Peel and eat, butter or garlic butter. Grilled hot sauce, battered and fried, tartar sauce.

@SjamaanN My mom and grandmothers were all phenomenal cooks. Everything they made was better than eating anywhere else.

@fxbgHOT I covered my tomatoes tonight. I haven't even put my peppers out yet. I'm 7a, North GA. 30s tonight. Several low 40s in the next week. I'll just wait till MAY 4. Sigh.

@fxbgHOT The first year or two, start up costs diminish savings, but I also raise rabbits for meat, and they give me plenty of fertilizer. But both the taste AND nutritional value are higher, and it's hard to put a price tag on that.

@bennyjohnson @AllieinMO No. I really like Tucker. I voted for Trump in 2020. I will not again. He guarantees a Democrat win. He is that unpopular except with his base. They MUST open their eyes!?

@Liz_Wheeler Either 1 or 3 work for me. I don't want to see him run for POTUS! He's a great guy, but I don't see him in that role.

@jdouglasburton Your neighborhood requires that many cops. At least it's not boring!!

@SLawson1417 I never watched an episode, but if I'd realized what a beautiful woman Emelia Clarke is, I would have seriously considered tuning in.

@ScriptsByT I find them very attractive and appropriate for weddings and such, but I do not find them comfortable. I lived in Scotland for 20 years, but I'm from Kentucky. Not terribly appropriate there!!!

@Bryan_Duncan All mine are missing. I love Him enough to make things easier on Him 🤣😂😇

#SpokeToGod… he said I know the exact number of hairs on your head… And I’m kind enough to not tell you how many are missing now

@MikeWingerii Mike I'm so glad for this post. I've been teaching people for years that to best understand the Bible read Luke first for who Jesus is, then Acts for what to do about it, then John. I also recommended the book of Hebrews before starting the OT. Thanks again!

Revelation is not only a complex and challenging book, it’s a book that constantly references the rest of the Bible. You don’t stand much of a chance of really grasping it without a well-rounded understanding of the rest of Scripture.
May I suggest you start with one of the Gospels (Luke or John), then Acts, then Romans?
Then begin working through the whole Bible. Perhaps with a full Bible reading plan. There are a bunch of free ones available online and even apps to help you keep track.
