As well as measuring the #river Worfe in Shropshire today, we’re also having a #spring #clean near it’s banks at our station. We picked up 7 bags of litter here today. Really disappointing to see. If you’re out walking or enjoying nature, please take your #litter home with you!

Hot weather can cause dissolved oxygen levels to crash. This can cause serious problems for fish. If you see fish gasping please call us on 0800 807060.

@DavidGrainger2 @EnvAgencyMids Not practical for permanent deployment (infrastructure, cost, flood flows), but they can be deployed temporarily if and when needed. I've done it several times, usually for pollution incidents. It does depend upon quick reports from the public and quick response from our teams.

@EnvAgencyMids Not Practical for the life in the river? Or to maintain power? Or cost? Sorry for all the questions, just thinking if things are going to get worse before they get better on our rivers then we need to have a plan!

We've deployed an aerator at Radbrook Pool at #Shrewsbury Town Fisheries where 1000s of #fish were seen in distress by #anglers today. We're seeing fewer fish in distress than in recent weeks but remain alert. Spot fish in distress? Call our incident hotline: 0800 80 70 60 ☎️

Our officers are testing oxygen levels across the #Midlands today and assessing the impact on #fish. Hot weather can cause fish deaths by reducing the dissolved oxygen they depend on. Intense rainfall can also be damaging. ⛈️⚡ Report any sightings to our hotline 0800 80 70 60.

The @metoffice are forecasting heavy showers and potential thunderstorms from the end of this week for our area. This can sometimes cause problems for fisheries after periods of dry and warm weather. Please call us on 0800 807060 if you see any dead or distressed fish

When we have these sort of weather conditions - hot weather followed by storms and urban run off - we can see dissolved oxygen in rivers crash and fish struggle. EA teams can provide support so please report on our 24/7 incident hotline 0800 80 70 60 gov.uk/report-an-envi…

Invasive species travel with you…wherever you go! The non-native invasive species is a particularly aggressive predator, preying on a range of invertebrates, particularly native shrimps and young fish. Find out more - rya.org/5zwh50OsFJQ #INNSweek #InvasiveSpeciesWeek

Fish Health, Ageing and Non-Native Species
Topmouth gudgeon is a highly invasive non-native fish species and pose a significant threat to native biodiversity in our lakes and rivers. They can outcompete native species for food and resources. #INNSWeek @InvasiveSp

Not all non-native species are #invasive. Invasive species are those that spread after introduction and cause impacts. Impacts can be to the receiving environment, native species or economic. Both fish below are #NonNative to England, but which one is invasive?

@Aerotiques Gloster, possibly Meteor and maybe a DH Vampire in the background. Not sure on the shiny parts or the random landing gear.
