@Nymiixl I think the challenge after that is to give people a reason to jump into other modes after they’ve ran a different activity. If they can find a gameplay loop that points PvE/PvP modes back to extraction, I think the game can only be stronger for it.

@Nymiixl They note they’re looking at Marathon as a hardcore survival game, and I think there’s definitely room for PvE with high stakes that can provide an alternative to the PvPvE tension. Different modes for different moods and audiences could probably help build the player base.

I feared as much... "PVE-only mode that’s focused on crews being tasked with completing objectives together and making some progress across matches" I don't like this idea at all. I don't see the point of it.

@PaulTassi I watched The Leftovers for the first time during COVID and it was so devastatingly beautiful, still my favorite show of all time. The premise for this new show sounds like it could be great.

@PaulTassi If they can slowly grow and evolve the game into a big platform with tons of things to do like Destiny, I’d be happy with that over a Destiny 3. I love both worlds, I just want to play a Bungie shooter.

This part is interesting to me. It could be the long term goal is to the get real PvE and PvP modes working and combine them all into an entirely new Marathon package. Not quite a mini Destiny, but at least somewhat moving toward that kind of broader base

@PaulTassi I’ve learned to love the extraction gameplay but I would 100% play the shit out of modes with other focus. Having a full vault and good gear in my inventory but no team to play with doesn’t really encourage me to run solo. Other modes would give me other ways to keep playing

Marathon will have a PvE-only experimental mode in season 2, plus a PvP-"lite" mode Honestly faster than I thought it would happen

@nickjcal I'd love to watch an interview like this. I've loved learning each location and I'm hoping to get even better at cryo. It makes me want to go back and play through Destiny raids again, Bungie makes great levels.

I want a game developer to come talk with me about just how good the map design in Marathon is. The complexity of Cryo Archive is going to be great material for game design essayists before too long.

@PaulTassi @Forbes I noticed at the end of your article you note Destiny Rising is doing better now, but I sat in a queue for 30 minutes waiting for their version of iron banner and most other activities get filled with bots. So not sure they’re doing so hot either.
