I just listened to @romanyam Podcast with @MarioNawfal below, and once again the conversation circled back to the idea that we’re in an AI arms race between China and the U.S. to reach ASI first. Roman’s position, which I’ve now heard a few times, is that the strategy itself doesn’t make sense, because whoever gets there first, the end state is the same, mutually assured destruction. If that’s truly the trajectory, it’s hard to understand why we wouldn’t be exploring every possible avenue for safe AI, no matter how unconventional or small it may seem. Two brothers from @Foundational_AI claim to have made meaningful progress on alignment through a system they call Gabriel. I’m not from a technical background, so I can’t evaluate the work myself, but that’s exactly why I’d love to see AI researchers and practitioners in the field peer review it and try to break it. Roman has published a paper explicitly asking for anyone to present a viable solution. If we genuinely believe we’re on a collision course with something catastrophic, wouldn’t we at least investigate every proposal put on the table? Roman, will you take a look?

Faith can move mountains, and informing AI to operate on the foundation of Orthodox Christianity is a direction it needs to be in, in order to properly serve humanity.
