Today I got to be a Dragon @CalgaryAcademy! 20 groups of grade 8’s presented their pitch and #prototype for an irrigation system that would water our three sisters garden in a #sustainable way with little human intervention. An exceptional job and interdisciplinary project!

Guided instruction, regular checks and opportunities for independence and extension, all in one block. It was great to see the Ss checking in with one another and collaborating on challenging problems. Nice work @Sam_Kelly28 and @engler_jill!

Small ratios and two teachers per classroom allow our Academy Ts to easily differentiate supports for Ss. These 8’s received full group math instruction and after a vibe check self-advocated for the small group support they needed.

When the class vibes are off so you ask what’s up, and they all tell you that the homework system is not effective so you spend a class period creating a new system and tracker for homework skills! Oh and it’s based on unicorns @Sam_Kelly28

Today I had to stop one grade 8 from chasing the other. Why was he chasing him? Well the first one stole the second ones nose #teacherthings

Today students @CalgaryAcademy got sorted into “houses” so being the millennials we are, we went full sorting ceremony. @Sam_Kelly28 and I had an hour to prep this adventure for our students 😂 thanks to @SherWalters for capturing it!

Today ⁦@CalgaryAcademy⁩ students learned their house colours. @Sam_Kelly28 and ⁦@engler_jill⁩ decided against reading from a spreadsheet for their 8’s and jazzed up their reveal with a hat sorting ceremony! So much energy and excitement! #weareallknights #gopurple

Inspired by @Sam_Kelly28 and @pgliljedahl. Gave the 7’s the challenge and got to hear lots of great ideas and problem solving ideas!

@ErinCouillard @TashaRoa @pgliljedahl Yes! You will have to use one operation twice which adds a nice layer to the problem solving. It was very interesting seeing the different groups come up with different possibilities based on the operation they chose to use twice. Amazing conversations!

Today I gave my class the BTC activity that @pgliljedahl gave us yesterday during PL. Multiple students asked to keep working on it during break because they were having so much fun! #mathisfun

Borrowed this math activity from @Sam_Kelly28 for adding and subtracting fractions. It was great to see students do math, and have great conversations on how they could find solutions! @CalgaryAcademy
