We upped the game today in @engler_jill Humanities! We taught about the Aztec human sacrifice ceremony through thespianism. First, however, they offered up their Aztec artifacts to the temple. @MsTsClasses - thank you for your sacrifice! 😂 @CalgaryAcademy

Having them see a visual account of the colonization of the Aztec and Central American Indigenous groups is helping the students make connections and form a deeper understanding of this historical period! Huge thanks to @charityhelman for all the help!

I've been working with @engler_jill on her Aztec unit for #grade8social & today she gave her kiddos a comic book version of the voyage of Columbus and the seige of Tenochtitlan. They will then create a timeline of events. It was actually 30 years #diduknowthat?? @CalgaryAcademy

Using this exit slip for @8huculak all these years later. It’s a great way to check in with students, and get them use to the language of the competencies! Lots of great reflections that are great pieces of evidence for parent conferences and assessment comments!

Growing up, I watched my mom hand write thank you cards to everyone who ever helped her or sent her a gift. It was the way Princess Diana did it, and it’s how we do it. These are most of the people who made the #SilkRoad possible and successful!

I love my new role! I get to work with awesome teachers like Jill who has the guts to take a leap and create a learning experience where not one kid wasn't smiling! She brought the Silk Road to life and these kids learned a lot along the way! @CalgaryAcademy

Yesterday the #Kengler class competed for the inaugural Traders Cup! The students had to trade with teachers throughout the school, plot coordinates for the next port, and trade up from a paper clip! @Sam_Kelly28

Today we launched our final project for the Renaissance Unit which is our Silk Road Sim! Students were split into different countries and had to research goods and innovations from their new home! One showed up in full costume ready to go! @charityhelman
