RWA was one of the most talked-about narratives of the year. And not without reason. On-chain real world asset value expanded aggressively, moving from roughly $5–6B in late 2023 to $53B by the end of 2025. Private credit, tokenized treasuries, and bonds did most of the heavy lifting. But price action and sentiment told a more complicated story. • Liquidity never truly arrived. Most products were designed to be held till maturity, not traded. That meant shallow secondary markets, fragmented liquidity across chains, and friction that made RWAs feel more like structured products than crypto-native assets. • Regulation helped, but also slowed things down. Compliance clarity improved in parts of the world, especially for institutions. At the same time, reliance on off-chain contracts and custodians diluted the decentralization promise and cooled retail excitement. • Infrastructure risks became visible. Losses from key compromises, oracle failures, and bridge issues increased sharply. The risk narrative shifted from asset quality to on-chain execution, and that hurt confidence. • TradFi interest stayed selective. Big names experimented seriously, but mostly in private environments. The trillion-dollar migration narrative turned into a cautious, controlled rollout instead. 👉 Looking ahead to 2026 This is not the end of RWAs. It is the digestion phase. Liquidity layers, better interoperability, and cleaner compliance rails are being built quietly. When those pieces click, RWAs stop being a narrative and start behaving like real financial primitives. 2025 was about proving demand. 2026 is about making it work at scale.
