Manu Ginobili was a rare wing who impacted the game in quite literally every single way. He didn’t need specific lineups, or types of players to cater to his skill set. He was the ultimate “plug and play” weapon and a huge driving force behind 4 championship teams. However, a ton of his influence on the team doesn’t show up on a traditional box score. How do you capture quick decision making? Elite defensive positioning? Motor? Manu being an all-time “impact beyond the box score” guy leads to him becoming underrated. Believe it or not, it’s possible to average 19-5-5 and be more impactful than a player who averaged 30, or 25-8. It’s possible to come off the bench, play 31 MPG and influence the final score more than someone who played 36. If the goal of basketball is to win, then the “best players” should be those who influence winning. Regardless of whether or not they stuff the stat sheet. Manu influenced winning. In every area of the game. For a team that WON. A LOT. He’s one of the best shooting guards ever.
