@PhilosopherJoeC @pmokeefe Dude, are you a bot? Consensus has nothing to do with it. You’re own example of years ago humanity thinking the world is flat, shows that consensus means nothing

The only feature all facts have in common is consensus. Once you take consensus away you can't say "It is a fact," you can only say "I believe it is a fact," which is no different from "I believe."

@PhilosopherJoeC @pmokeefe You just keep committing the same fallacy. The ONLY thing that matters is the evidence, and the arguments in support of that evidence. What ppl ‘believe’ doesn’t mean jack shit, my brother. Experts are usually first to be persuaded bc they are most familiar with the evi & arg.

@pmokeefe @SamsBulldog I'm merely pointing out that we would not be talking about it as a fact UNLESS it reached (near) consensus. They didn't think it was a fact before precisely because there was no consensus. This is not a counterexample.

@DKThomp its a tempest in a teapot, of course that will enrich Nolan... but having more plausible characters is wise to want. In 'Troy' for example many of the greek fighters had English accents, which was silly to my American ears. it isn't 'racism' imo

it's a poem about a thing that never happened, credited to an author who probably never existed, and helen is introduced within the mythology as the daughter of ZEUS, a figure literally nobody in this country even believes in, if you're emotionally invested in the historicity of her pigmentation you need a life and also medication, not necessarily in that order

@oliverburdick Fallacy: it's not on me to disprove your wishful thinking, it's on you to demonstrate that its true (Shifting the burden of proof). (Btw, you can't disprove islam, hinduism, judaism etc)

I can’t believe the Coen Brothers had the nerve to set THE ODYSSEY in the American south in the 1930s!! They’re pissing on Homer’s grave!! I hope the government of Greece has them drawn and quartered!

It has been six years. Every single "stolen election" theory — from 2,000 Mules to servers in Italy to Georgia suitcases — has been debunked, crushed in court, painstakingly explained, and none of these guys ever have the goods cause it's all nonsense to please POTUS. It's embarrassing for Bartiromo that she is still giving this airtime, and anyone who still falls for this chasing the next new reveal needs to get away from their computer.
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

BARTIROMO: So you believe there will be a definitive answer as to whether the 2020 election was stolen? TODD BLANCHE: We're looking at it and we hope to get one

The Bible completely changed for Tim Allen. He’s been reading the entire Old Testament — in Aramaic, French, Latin, and Greek, page by page. The story that wrecked him the most was the Book of Job. When Job asks God why he’s suffering, God essentially replies: “You weren’t here when I created the world. You don’t understand why the waves stop at the shore or why the stars move… so why are you questioning me?” It left him humbled and in awe. In a world obsessed with quick answers, certainty, and self-importance, the Book of Job stands as a profound philosophical reminder of humility. It teaches us that true wisdom begins with acknowledging how little we actually know and how vast the mystery of existence truly is. There’s something deeply honest about the raw exchange between human suffering and divine perspective. What part of the Bible (or any ancient text) has surprised or moved you the most?

@bernardtjoy Not true. In Greece more so. But what was acceptable to do to boys was varied by Polis. In Ancient Rome, accusing a guy of banging old men, was an insult. So there were distinctions made. But not the ‘clear lines’ we think of today. Imo

These are all biopics about historical figures whose racial identity is central to the story. By the same token, you couldn’t cast a black actor to play De Klerk in a Mandela movie.
