@fletchjack Wow. Both of these are exactly the case. To think otherwise is, at best, naive.

Straight from the submission: “The increase in locally employed doctors would become concerning in a certain set of circumstances: either if significant numbers of doctors were feeling 'forced' into taking time out of training due to a lack of suitable opportunities or, if doctors on local contracts were being treated unfavourably compared to those on national contracts. We do not believe these circumstances are the case” 🤯

For info, you’ll be able to read the @AnaesUnited ruling in full (should you be as much of a nerd as I am!) hopefully from tomorrow at around 2pm - if they get their act together - on judiciary.uk

@JamesTitcombe Who should provide this urgent second opinion? I am an anaesthetist, often covering maternity but I would not be able to offer an urgent second opinion on obstetric care. I like the idea but am unsure of the practicalities

@DrEilidhMaria What rotation do you start on? I assume medicine or EM? If anaesthetics, the RCOA NovPod podcasts are good

@ShaunLintern Have you reported anything about the inappropriate requests being submitted? Hospitals requesting twice their normal staffing? Hospitals making no plans at all?

The BMA refused 18 requests for derogations from strikes on safety grounds, says NHS England's Sir Jim Mackey. He says in half of those, the BMA said it would approve them but only if "extortionate pay rates" were offered to striking docs:

@kateshilling69 @Dr_Done_ @wesstreeting I support paramedics and prehospital teams having time for a proper break and access to hot food and drink. This was not a part of resident doctor demands, or actually offered to resident doctors. No actual offer was made beyond talking about things.

@Dr_Done_ @wesstreeting Imagine demanding hot meals on a night shift when paramedics on a lot less money are lucky to grab a sandwich if they get time

EXCL: Wes Streeting’s offer to the BMA in full - including cheaper lunches! This is what the doctors’ union rejected in favour of strikes: thesun.co.uk/news/politics/…

@ExplosiveEnema2 @wesstreeting And writing it off completely is never going to happen. For a start, not including all healthcare professionals wouldn't work politically

@ExplosiveEnema2 @wesstreeting A part? No hope. Makes no difference to what's in my pocket. All of it and we can start thinking but even then clearing all of it only gets us part way. Nowhere near enough

Hey @wesstreeting 👋 Drs Assistants will still be outearning a Doctor by ~£10k on graduation despite vastly different levels of knowledge and risk While i applaud studnet load forgiveness, paying off a portion does not fix that

@neilorpen @BMAResidents @wesstreeting What negotiation? SoS has already reneged on promises to resolve previous strikes. No attempt to negotiate now. SoS has left BMA with little choice

While the BMA representatives are high on power , the resident doctors will miss out on salary during strike action This was avoidable as clearly there is no chance of extra funding in this financial year - negotiation should have continued The BMA have made a mistake on this and are sacrificing their members interests and incomes for their own political greed - what a shame

Following yesterday’s strike ballot result, we met with @wesstreeting It’s clear: the Government is refusing to negotiate on pay. We are now preparing for a full 5 day walk-out, beginning on Friday 25 July. Our door will always be open to constructive talks. #PayRestoration

@ExplosiveEnema2 @DHSCgovuk Can they apply that exemption? 35 1a is for developing government policy. Can an independent review be considered part of making government policy? Surely if it's independent of the government it can't be. Worth an appeal to ICO?
