I suffered this mindset and rhetoric in my youth in Kolkata, but glad to report that it has now radically changed (finally!). My ideas were considered off the charts in 1990 but is now mainstream among those below 25. The average age of those in this march is a testimony to what has happened.

Saying this with a strong sense of responsibility: Don’t get distracted by the urge for quick, short-term wins. Indian Army is not the Pakistani Army, we don’t act recklessly to score points. The Indian Armed Forces operate with foresight, precision, and discipline. Every action, or inaction, is driven by strategy. What matters is the outcome, not the noise in between. Military ops are not action movies, novels, or video games. In real warfare, our forces must be prepared with Plans A through Z, anticipating every possible scenario. So please, don’t rush for instant answers or dramatic visuals. Things will unfold, not impulsively, but exactly when and how we want them to.

Saw a video this morning of a Dogra man from a border town in Jammu saying, 'We've evacuated our kids, women, and elderly, but the men will stay to assist the Army.' People living in India's border cities deserve applause. While the rest of us sit comfortably, discussing "tensions at the border" like it's just another headline, they live under the constant threat of war and attacks. They hear the sirens. They’ve seen what shelling looks like. And yet, they stay. Their presence itself upholds our sovereignty. They open shops, send kids to school, go about life as normally as possible, not because they’re unaware of the risks, but because this is their home and they refuse to be pushed out by fear. Hats off brothers and sisters!

We once had a Vice President who leaked classified information about RAW agents to Iran. As a result, most of those agents were either killed or captured. Obviously, that ecosystem will find the current Vice President “problematic”...

Father Hargobindo Das (72) and son Chandan Das (40) lived in Murshidabad. They were among the poorest, living in a remote, backward village, in a fragile mud house.
