@Matedwards7 This is a fascinating shot! First, the portraits - only one i can even guess at is left-side…Haydn? And the harpsichord - don’t see many of these, very cool. What drove you to play this instrument? And where are the bass strings, do they go off to the right? Never seen this!

#OTD 1685 J.S.Bach was born. to celebrate his genius, let's enjoy the jubilant Allegro from his Concerto for Violin & Orchestra in E Major, wonderfully performed by Anne-Sophie Mutter with the English Chamber Orch. conducted by Salvatore Accardo in this 1983 Lp recording.

The software sector is facing a massive debt wall: ~$40 billion in software and services debt matures in 2028, the largest single-year concentration. The vast majority of this is rated B- or lower, deep in junk territory, with no investment-grade debt in the mix. In total, ~$100 billion in software debt matures from 2026 to 2029, with an additional ~$70 billion beyond 2030. Meanwhile, AI disruption is increasing credit risk for software borrowers, the exact companies that private credit funds have been lending to most aggressively. Software is also the largest sector in the leveraged loan market, representing 12% of the total. Refinancing this debt at higher rates with deteriorating fundamentals will be a growing problem for the sector. The software sector has a tough road ahead.

The Temple of Julius Caesar was right in the heart of the Roman Forum. Very little of it survives. The Forum was the nerve center of humanity for centuries. Who created it? Caesar, of course. He was also the first Roman to be deified. It was why the Temple was built.

On this the Ides of March, Julius Caesar's oft-visited funeral pyre site is believed to be part (circled in red) of his mortuary temple recreated in the diagram below. The pic of the mound and flowers is iconic, but we're not actually sure this is his actual pyre.

This is Nietzsche at his most inspiring. The world is: Dynamic. Entropic. Experimental. Exploratory. Artistic. Individual. This is the Will To Power.

Not content to just reason out the foundational Materialist (reality is its own physical thing) vs. Idealist (reality comes from/through the mind) bases of philosophy, Nietzsche in his 20s undertook deep independent studies of physics, astronomy and chemistry. No degrees needed.

@oldbooksguy Exactly. But AI can cheaply regurgitate extant real art and hit the bullseye randomly on occasion. 99.999% risible slop, 0.001% art. And a concerning % of the slop is ‘good enough’ for the market. Unfortunately, the math works for AI here. Real art is in trouble.

The Ides of March are come! 🗡️#IdesofMarch Julius Caesar was assassinated #OnThisDay in 44 BC and stabbed 23 times by the senators during a meeting in the Theatre of Pompey. Julius Caesar was later deified, and a temple was built in his honour in the forum. People still leave flowers on the altar that marks the site of his funeral pyre. Caesar: The Ides of March are come. Soothsayer: Ay, Caesar, but not gone. - Shakespeare, Julius Caesar
