Poetry is the constructive outgrowth of civil culture.
It is a distillation of its expressions, priorities, and struggles.
As art is the sympathetic image of the culture, so poetry is the ultimate image of its empathies.
They’re intrinsic to one another.
But poetry is not purely a diagnostic image. It’s an image which forms and constructs the culture itself. In reading, you debate with the work and formulate your own expressions. Expressions rooted in the poems thesis.
Gander at the poems of the last 40 years or so and you’ll have a keen sense of the cultural degradation we’ve experienced as a nation. Our true thesis is devolving.
That is why I write poetry. That is why I am a Christian.
This nation needs to remember its cultural thesis. It must remember Christ as our one true savior and Lord. Only then can we express our sympathies and empathies with rational conviction. Passioned by the sorrow and glory of Christs death on the cross and triumphant resurrection. Otherwise we will further devolve into this excruciating, gluttonous barbarism that compels the world.
Accept Christ, write poetry; for this great nation.
It is for God and country that I pray.
