As an AD, you must balance day to day operations like scheduling, compliance, and communication with long term vision, developing coaches, maintaining a healthy culture, and growing programs. Managing both keeps the present running and builds the future.

During contact period last year, I watched a coach walk into a high school and talk to three people about a recruit. The guidance counselor. A math teacher. A kid in the hallway. None of them were the head coach. None of them were the recruit. By the time the coach left, he knew more about that kid's character than any highlight reel could show. This is happening at schools across the country. Act accordingly.

I pray I live to see the day when those stud players that commit to play D2 D3 NAIA JC are as loud & proud as those players who post that “I committed to a DI” You’re all studs & in the elite 7% club of playing college ball. Be proud of what you’ve accomplished!

I really dont think 95% of society realizes how hard it is to play any sport at any level in college.

Your best player isn’t always the one who scores the most points. It’s the kid who sets screens to get others open, dives on loose balls, and leads with their voice in tough moments. High school basketball rewards selflessness.

Parents who allow their kids to be coached hard are giving them a gift most young people today never receive — accountability.

High school basketball is the ultimate test of grit. No endorsements, no millions on the line—just love for the game, pride for your school, and the desire to outwork your opponent. If you can succeed here, you can succeed anywhere.

The hardest thing to coach isn’t X’s and O’s. It’s teaching kids to embrace discomfort: - Sprinting when they’re tired. - Listening when they’re frustrated. - Pushing themselves when no one is watching.

When season is over, take 1-2 wks off to let your body/mind rest. Focus on spending time w/ family & friends, getting academics on point, extra sleep, eat well, work on flexibility & get with your athletic trainer & take care of any nagging injuries. More isn’t better right now!

I am so proud of these girls & Coach Jess. We lost 3 starters going into this season & our 6man & no one thought we’d win our league yet make it to the Dome! It is a true testament to the program at AHS & how this zip code team plays for one another! So proud of them all!💚🥹💯

Season ended last night. Tough loss to a good West Valley team 67-71. So much to be proud of! 7 straight league titles, 22 wins, and 6 straight state appearances. Lots to look forward to in our future! Go Trojans!

@GlennOsterhout I love all of these ideas as they offer actionable items for each topic! As alums and new freshman Coug parents we were behind in finding housing for parents weekend this fall. Only 1 Airbnb remained and luckily we got it. But prices are crazy and that is hard on families!
