Happy birthday to Mabel. Despite her occasional worries about the world, she would follow you to the ends of it. Which she proved again a couple of days ago.

plymouth.ac.uk/study/research… - Awesome PhD for the right candidate with practical use for supporting the diversification, and therefore robustness, of the south west fishing fleet.

This week after an insightful interview with @ashmika_motee on navigating menstruation in challenging environments & a lovely email from @UK_WIF the importance of women supporting each other in the fishing industry is clear. Excited to see female research & communities evolve ❤️

The horrifying reality of being a woman, perfectly summarised by @_CaitlinORyan If you give even the slightest shit about women, watch it all. This is what it’s like.

Super interesting find! The fact that this was a sole doesn’t surprise me in the least. Sole love to have the last word, sand sole in particular are the hardest to measure fish out there I reckon 😅

Really interesting examination of this seal. Pregnant adult female in good nutritional condition- found a large, recently ingested flatfish wedged headfirst into the entrance to the nasal cavity and obstructing the trachea, likely causing asphyxiation...

@TheLobsterDr @BedeFfinian Thank you both, I was thinking along those lines. Curious as to whether it’s more to do with the species of bryozoan being particularly good at attaching itself or if it’s to do with the movement of the crawfish. I suppose a mixture of both is most likely 🙆🏼‍♀️

Has anyone noticed these orange markings on their crawfish this year? I’ve had a quick research but can’t find anything conclusive. All fish seemed healthy but interesting almost every fish caught that day had some on 👀 Not something I’ve seen on them before

Natural fly control from our summer visitors. We’ve had more swallow nests in the buildings than I have ever seen at Strickley, 9 nests, all had 2 broods fledge with some managing a third. There’s no shortage of food for them on an organic dairy farm. I love seeing them fly 💚
