Ed Davey is right - hard to see how there can be community confidence in the Met chief after this. That said, Cressida Dick resigning will not be enough on its own - she cannot be used as a human shield for Priti Patel. The problem is the policy and the policy comes from the top.

Disgusting and completely avoidable. After the court case yesterday, the High Court left the door open for the MET police to engage with the organisers to agree a peaceful, socially distant vigil. They refused and did this instead.

This weekend saw the first all-women police operation in #Lambeth and #Southwark tackling violent crime. Every policing role from street patrol to processing prisoners and reviewing evidence, was delivered solely by our fantastic Met women. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2021
