@json_dirs @MPDL @CalPolyHumboldt agreed, but funding seems problematic. at the very least it's pragmatic that an institute that funded and hosted the work should subsidize its ongoing availability - this is also super different when it's a few MB of analyzed behavioral data vs TB of calcium imaging

@SarahStednitz @MPDL @CalPolyHumboldt the thing being pushed to risk-averse administrators across the board is to rent storage, which inevitably conflicts with something like indefinite data storage. hence the urgency I feel for p2p alternatives that encourage an ecosystem of distributed infrastructure.

idk they had pulled in a little less than a billion through STRIDES when I last checked in the summer before the rules were first announced. going to be a fun ride for academics still fighting the last war and not seeing infrastructure coming right for them.
