Actual thing my husband said while we were discussing a family dilemma: “I think we are having a Plato/Aristotle problem here because you are approaching this through abstraction but I need a concrete particular through which to grasp the general point.”

@nicholascarrigg I have pictures and a fond memory of a church Memorial Day cookout here in the middle of NY -- pouring rain, everybody crowded inside a park pavilion, my children eating hot dogs in their winter coats. Good times.

Thus begins the rain, and another New England Memorial Day bites the dust. I'm going to Bermuda or something next year. Every year!

@sunflowermantis Not my kids! But I agree it makes it harder to find a decent hand-me-down — casual riders aren’t buying regular bikes and then selling them for a new model so much anymore.

I hate the dilemma of kids' bikes. For ~$150 you can get a janky bike from walmart that'll probably last you 2 seasons before going in a landfill. For ~$30 and an hour of your time you can go on fb marketplace and get a janky bike that should've gone into a landfill 2 yrs ago.

Well, I haven't solved the problem of updating my KIDS bikes for this year, but I just went on a 17-mile bike ride myself around my neighborhood and it was so amazing. Doing workouts on the zwift all winter was torture but it WORKED and hills are so much easier now.

You COULD get a high quality bike and hand down through your kids, but by the time you're sufficiently advanced in your career/family finances to be willing to splurge, they're practically all on adult bikes anyway.

@NoblestCalling Outdoors I feel like your odds are pretty good. The neighbor could’ve just touched something and then put it to his eye. But I may be the family optimist, so….

Kids spent almost the whole day yesterday playing (outdoors) with the neighbor kid and his mom just texted me he woke up with pink eye. What do you think our odds are, chat.

Signs of impending Alzheimer’s- played a game of mafia/imposter with the kids and completely failed to assign anyone to be the murderer when it was my turn to host. That was a short round! (As my kids say, I am so so cooked. Goodbye brain cells.)

@Zo_bo_fo_sho I went to a museum exhibit of Remedios Varo’s stuff when I was a teenager and it imprinted so hard on my brain. I was scrolling past and then recognized the artist before I saw the caption — love her stuff. So weird and evocative.

@selentelechia Yeah, I think that’s about right. I think the things further down the list come a little faster — like maybe more 6-9 weeks instead of 8-12. Be prepared for your appetite to go way up with cardio. I’ve just accepted I’m not doing it to lose weight but for all the other benefits.

now that I'm hitting the point where I'm starting to feel sturdy from lifting, I'm looking into throwing in some cardio claude claims this is a rough timeline on when you start getting noticeable gains in subjective well-being, does this sound right?

15yo is reading Romeo and Juliet in school, so I thought it would be fun to watch West Side Story together. As it ended, I realized I’ve never shown the kids a movie w/out a happy ending before… this may have been a mistake.

The reason the discourse is going on so long is because ladies love talking about childbirth and postpartum. It’s our version of old men talking about wwii aircraft or something.

@ouranometrian2 With my first I had my mom, mil, sister and husband in the room with an epidural. For my second and on I just had my sister and husband and no epidurals. My mom did not really enjoy attending my sister’s natural births - it was too stressful.

Well now I must know. Do we think the women who invite every family member into the delivery room had epidurals or unmedicated? My epidural birth was way more chill. The unmedicated one...im not sure if other people wanna even see that.

@Elliesmommyy23 My family is weirdly open abt birth, now that I think about it. For my sister’s first, I was there too -- along with my mom, dad, and little brother! (He was interested in medicine as a career, so he had a REASON, but all the nurses looked at us funny.)

Ok, jumping on mil discourse -- I’m the weirdo who had my mil, my mom AND my sister all present at the birth of my 1st. It WAS a little awkward! But she is the BEST mil & grandma, and none of her daughters have had kids, and so I’m really glad she got to be there at least once.

When you are a mostly-sahm for school aged kids you get so many opportunities to hang with retired folks. Really enjoyed today’s club bike ride with (not lying even a little) Larry, Gary, Jerry and Mary. (&Bob&Kathy, who should have considered rhyming.)

Teed up four loads of laundry for the kids to fold & put away tomorrow when they’re feeling all helpful and filial for the holiday. It is, perhaps, a little devious of me.
