US citizen Ahmed Shihab-Eldin was arrested 6 weeks ago in Kuwait, faces prosecution before a special tribunal for his social media posts, and remains behind bars today. Kuwaiti authorities can still course correct by dropping all charges against him & releasing him immediately.

April 12, 2026, I visited Marwan Barghouti in my capacity as his lawyer. What I confirmed through this visit is deeply alarming. In recent weeks, Marwan Barghouti has been subjected to three violent assaults. On April 8 in Ganot Prison, he was severely beaten and left bleeding for more than two hours. He requested medical care and was denied treatment. On March 25, he was assaulted during his transfer from Megiddo to Ganot. On March 24, in Megiddo Prison, guards entered his cell with a dog, forced him to the ground, and the dog repeatedly attacked him.  These are not isolated incidents. They form a clear pattern of escalating abuse: violence, medical neglect, and treatment that places him at immediate risk. He had a great deal to say. Above all, he wanted to know more about his family and the Palestinian people, What is happening in Palestinian and Israeli scene I tried to tell him everything I know. But even that conversation took place under absurd conditions: the phones did not work, so we had to shout through the glass just to hear each other. For five hours, I sat there without food or water, trying to make sure this visit meant something. This is what a legal visit looks like today: basic conditions denied, communication obstructed, and even the most elementary human and professional standards ignored. And still, despite all of that, his mind was sharp, focused, and deeply engaged with everything happening outside those prison walls.

Yesterday, Egyptian authorities targeted the family of @NourKhalil00, ED of @rpegyorg, because of the org’s work defending Sudanese refugees and migrants amid a widening crackdown and force deportations on Sudanese in #Egypt.

This Ramadan, I'm holding in my heart those who are apart from their loved ones and are behind bars in Egypt today, among them translator Marwa Arafa, blogger Mohamed Oxygen, lawyer Hoda Abdelmoneim, activist Mohamed Adel, and countless others whose names we know and don't know.

All my solidarity and support for renowned Egyptian human rights defender @aidaseif who has been called in for questioning by the Dokki Prosecution for Case 809 of 2026 before the Supreme State Security Prosecution. The summons fails to detail what she is being accused of.

عمر شاكر، أحد أهم الحقوقيين في جيلنا، والشخص الذي يقف خلف تقرير مذبحة رابعة العدوية "حسب الخطة"، وتقرير "تجاوزوا الحد" الذي وثق قانونياً وتاريخياً الفصل العنصري والذي رحّلته بسببه إسرائيل، استقال اليوم من "هيومن رايتس ووتش" بسبب منع الإدارة الجديدة إصدار تقرير أنجزه مع فريقه عن التهجير وحق العودة. وقف النشر جاء بقرار من الإدارة العليا للمنظمة (المدير الجديد تسلم منصبه في نوفمبر الماضي)، وهذا حدث رغم إقرار التقرير والموافق عليه من كافة الأقسام المختصة: الجغرافية (قسم الشرق الأوسط)، والموضوعية (البرامج والشؤون القانونية). وبحكم عملي السابق مع "هيومن رايتس ووتش"، أدرك تماماً صرامة وتعقيد عملية التدقيق هذه؛ ما يعني أن منع التقرير لم يكن لسبب مهني أو مرتبط بالأدلة أو الحقائق، بل لأسباب سياسية بحتة تتعلق بالتمويل، وانسحاب المتبرعين، والخوف من اللوبي الإسرائيلي والإدارة الأميركية. هذا القرار فجر غضباً عارماً داخل المنظمة، تجسد في رسالة وقع عليها 200 موظف (من أصل 500) لرفض موقف الإدارة الجديدة التي تنحدر لمستوى غير مسبوق. نحن أمام لحظة مفصلية: إذا لم يتم تدارك هذا الموقف ونشر التقرير فوراً، فنحن حرفياً نغادر عصر "حقوق الإنسان" والقانون الدولي. فحتى الأمس القريب، كانت المؤسسات الدولية المستقلة تتصدى لتوثيق الانتهاكات بغض النظر عن هوية الجاني. اليوم، وبينما قضت الإدارة الأميركية عملياً على القانون الدولي عبر الحصانة التي منحتها لإسرائيل بعد جرائم الحرب الأخيرة، تأتي إدارة "هيومن رايتس ووتش" لتقضي على "جدوى" هذا القانون من الأساس. هذه علامة فارقة ستؤرخ للحظة سقوط النظام الدولي الحالي. عمر شاكر @OmarSShakir شجاع وأخلاقي، واستقالته هي القرار الصحيح. لكن الأهم في نظري، أن ما حدث تذكير جديد بأن معركتنا ضد الاستبداد والاحتلال هي معركة واحدة. هم يحاربوننا "جُملة"، ولا أظن الانعتاق يحدث إلا "جُملة". والله أعلم.
