@SahilBloom Designer clothes don't help anybody. A fit body isn't of much help either, if we speak about style. What works, really, is an experienced eye for silhouette, colors and patterns. Fat people can look very elegant.

I wasted so much money on clothes in my 20s that I should have just invested in my own health. Getting fit is worth more than any style makeover. A fit person looks better in jeans and a white tee than an unfit person in a $2000 designer outfit.

Spring combination. The legendary German tailor Volkmar Arnulf has made the suit. He is still active in Potsdam, approaching his 90th birthday.

In the 1830s men abandoned Beau Brummell’s white cravat for a black silk stock. This can be seen in portrait paintings from that time. Danish painter Købke on the left (1834), C.A. Jensen on the right (1843). In the late 19th century the modern tie appeared.

'A tie that doesn’t reach the waistband looks childish. One that extends much beyond it looks vulgar,' writes the FT's Robert Armstrong. ft.trib.al/a6XQNSk

The old Armani style with larger suits and a lower buttoning point is popular. However, a lower buttoning point isn’t always best. If you have a larger chest/stomach, a higher buttoning point often creates a better lapel fit and a more balanced look. The Rubinaccis show us.

I read that Mariano Rubinacci has passed away. I don’t think I’ve ever seen person in the sartorial community with a better feel for colours. Rest in peace.
