@SashaMargolis@Sayares13 Why do people go on Twitter and say things like "you have no ethical core" that would sound goofy as hell if they said it out loud? Come on man
Today, in Target's parking lot:
GUY: Sign this petition for Voter ID?
ME: Do I have to show ID to sign it?
GUY: No.
ME: So how do you know I'm a voter?
GUY: We verify name, address, and sig via the voter registry.
ME: You just explained why Voter ID is not necessary.
Name a more iconic duo than Glenn Greenwald and throwing somebody's personal struggles with mental health back in their face as soon as they criticize you
I’m a Democrat who lost an election because of my vote to pass the ACA. It was absolutely worth it.
My advice to my colleagues is this: when you get a chance to vote for meaningful, transformative legislation that will help millions of people have a better life – do it.
The @nytimes, like countless others in Western media, has a tradition of "journalism" which takes place in an Africa without leaders, without public health officials or activists. It takes place in a vacuum of knowledge and strategy. Africa has no thinkers or planners
In contrast, the @nytimes's article about COVID in Africa (The CONTINENT) features the following experts: a professor at New York University, a local registrar in a town in Nigeria, next the owner of a local funeral parlor from the same town in Nigeria....
In November, the @nytimes published an article about efforts in Asia to fight back COVID. They mentioned specifically 3 countries (Hong Kong, Korea and Japan) and outlined long histories of policy implementation by health officials in these nations trying to combat infections
To be clear, shedding light on a rich guy wanting to buy a newspaper is fair game. What’s infuriating about this is similar to what’s maddening about many of Vogel’s stories: he decides on a thesis and then strains to support it w/ facts, or omits facts to support a narrative.
In a recent column, Elizabeth Bruenig misrepresented my views on Biden's child benefit (which I enthusiastically favor!).
Here's my response, which isn't just about Bruenig but is also about feminism, policy, & the importance of an intersectional left. alternet.org/2021/03/elizab…
Seems like the biggest story today should be the fact that every House Republican just voted against $1,400 stimulus checks, funding to reopen schools, and unemployment benefits, legislation that 76% of Americans support.
Their failed coup attempt and insurrection have only emboldened them. The attempts in dozens of states to make registering and voting harder and give legislators the right to overrule the voters keeps our Democracy on life support. It needs far more sustained media coverage.
