VIDEO | Former India cricketer Farokh Engineer remembers the brilliance of Sir Garfield Sobers after the West Indies legend's demise, having played from the same era against Sobers during the 1960s and early 1970s.
"I don't think any other, certainly not an Indian Test cricketer, has been associated so closely with him because we started around the same time. He was a bit senior to me."
"When I first started playing for the All India Universities against the West Indies, I scored one of my fastest centuries against him. He was the first to come and shake my hand when I got my hundred at Chepauk against Wes Hall, Charlie Griffith, Sobers and Gibbs. But it was Sobers who eventually got me out."
"He and I had a very close relationship."
"He was the best in everything. He could catch better than anyone. He could bowl quick, he could swing the ball better than anyone, and of course, he could bat. I wouldn't say better than everyone, because there have been several great batsmen from the West Indies and around the world, like Rohan Kanhai, Graham Pollock from South Africa, Barry Richards, Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar."
"There have been many great batsmen, but certainly none like Gary Sobers and his determination. When he scored that big double century in Melbourne, I was the non-striker for quite a while. All I could say was, "Great shot, Serbi. Keep it up, Serbi."
