Sad. EV charging is turning into a serious surveillance problem, as you need AML/KYC'd payment to do it in almost all circumstances. Satimoto could have helped here. I'd love to know why Satimoto failed.

@SatimotoApp @peterktodd This is quite often a problem with Bitcoin businesses in general. At @Musqet_Bitcoin, we provide both fiat and Bitcoin payment capabilities. By providing fiat payments, we have this necessary throughput. We don't do EV charging (yet)... but who knows what the future may bring?

@peterktodd Agreed. I hated signing up to 6 charge cards and only using 1 or 2 regularly. I also developed the app during the MiCA regulation talk, so I was being very careful about self-custody. It was pretty off putting to start something in the EU with this looming.

@SatimotoApp Glad to hear it was an execution problem rather than a regulation problem. Or at least, the type of regulation that is an outright ban... EV charging is such a ridiculous market in general. So many entities who wish they could get lock-in with their dumb apps and memberships.

The Satimoto application will continue to be available for the foreseeable future but all charging services will be disabled from Sept 1st 2024. ALL code for the Satimoto client/server stack is FOSS and available here: github.com/satimoto

From Mar 1st 2024 we will begin sunsetting our LSP in favour of LSPs integrated with the Breez SDK. What does this mean? Anyone using Satimoto with the embedded LND backend will need to close their channels and move to the Breez SDK implementation to continue to use Satimoto.

This decision comes as it becomes less economical to run an LSP ourselves just for the purpose of receiving payments and cannot continually support free channel opening in the continued fee environment. Please feel free to reach out via DM and support if you need assistance.

Once all LSP channels are closed we will also be removing the LND node embedded in Satimoto in favour of Breez / Greenlight and plan to add other connection options to "at home" nodes in the future.
