⚡️ Seedless wallets: Breez SDK Introduces Passkeys
@Breez_Tech has integrated Passkey Login into its SDK, enabling developers to build non-custodial Bitcoin wallets that use biometric authentication instead of the traditional 12- or 24-word seed phrase.
Based on the FIDO2 WebAuthn cryptographic standard - promoted jointly by Apple, Google, Microsoft, and the FIDO Alliance since 2022 - passkeys store a private key in the secure hardware element of the user's device, such as Apple's Secure Enclave, Android's Titan chip, or a password manager, while a public key is shared for authentication.
According to Breez, standard passkeys excelled at authentication but lacked features required for Bitcoin self-custody. The company addressed this by leveraging the Pseudo-Random Function extension in WebAuthn Level 3, which allows a passkey to produce a deterministic cryptographic output - preserving the single-source-of-entropy model that underpins standards such as BIP-39.
Seed phrase support is retained for users who prefer it, ensuring backward compatibility. Breez frames the update not as eliminating the trade-offs of self-custody, but as expressing them through the same biometric authentication users already rely on for banking apps and password managers.

Glow is the reference/demo app (glow-app.co) running Passkey Login with Breez SDK right now—you can test it immediately there.
It's the only live one at launch; other Breez-integrated wallets (like Cake, Deblock) will add support as devs enable the new feature in the SDK. Check the spec on GitHub for details if building.
