I wrote a short thing about my favorite recent novel Meat Puppets by Hannah Smart. This one has taken me a while, and it still hasn't turned out how I wanted it to, but I mostly aimed for an explication of the book and why I liked it, so a quasi-review of sorts. Link below

Nothing brings out petulance and dramatic flairs of frustrated exhaustion like preparing an entire household for a cross country move. The relief of arrival will surely be like heroin.

Hawthorne hangs over this tale from @katpburke of a traumatized family forged in the ritualized remembrance of a ghastly murder. Unable to understand this enframing horror, the St. Clouds retreat into the alienating repetition of its mythologization. 1/2

I regret to inform all of you After Virtue haters that Aristotle vs. Nietzsche is, in fact, the only real choice in moral philosophy.

You should read it. The middle section “Intermission” will spellbind you with its dark fairy tale vibes and heartbreaking ontological hauntings.

@JamesJouissance I’m not sure how critical emodiment is to self-consciousness and the formation of an existential project, but apart from them that—I have no objections.

@JamesJouissance I wouldn’t bave any issue with calling an autonomous digital consciousness genuine. It would be entitled to the moral status of persons and all subsequent legal rights and protections. I’m just not too excited about it, perhaps for romantic human reasons.

My position with respect to the as-yet unrealized possibility of inorganic personhood is ambivalent. OTOH, if there were genuine inorganic persons then they would be entitled to all the rights and moral considerations as human persons. I don’t, however, look forward to it.
