The most secure computer in the world isn’t protected by a firewall or a fancy EDR. It is sitting in a lead-lined room, with its Ethernet cables physically cut, its WiFi card ripped out, and its Bluetooth chip disabled. This is the "Air-Gap" - the religious dogma of high-stakes security. We’ve been told for decades that if a machine isn't connected to a network, its data cannot leave the room. It’s a comforting lie, built on the assumption that if you don't provide a door, nothing can walk out. But we forgot one thing: the machine itself can scream through the walls.

I turned down 2 government jobs because my dad told me to do some specific research and when I did, I learned that in 60 months 72 federally employed (NASA) scientists died of unnatural causes. Ex: house fires, car accident, heart attack at 30, freak accidents, drowning, falling, plant crashes etc.. My dad saved my life fr!!!

Please take me to the side of threads that is talking about all the missing or dead SCIENTISTS because WTAF is going on?

To stop ants coming in to your house leave a saucer of milk outside. The adult ants drink it & it has an effect on ant reproduction. The young are born without toes so they can't climb in to your cavity walls. This effect is called lack toes in toddler ants.

@SaucepanRex @njoguamo @SirJayliste @fbiego_ and where the sale is made. We can also do the same with the field staff attendance to see real time logins. Very interesting. We were fetching data periodically using a scheduled action for this 3/3

Installed a car tracker from a company in Kenya that advertises "top security, state of the art" features. But after looking into it... • Android app on Google Play is from a Chinese developer • iPhone app is generic, you must manually enter the server IP • Web dashboard looks like it was built in 2005. Not sure if this was meant to be shared with end-users, but I got access using the server IP. (hii ya .aspx ni backend gani?) The whole platform appears to be a white-label system built in China. After inspecting the web dashboard, I found the API it uses. Calling the API directly returns tracking data with no authentication needed. The identifier seems to be an auto-increment field. I queried a range of IDs and got 96 valid vehicles out of 100 with: • license plates • locations • mileage • vehicle status Plotted on a map, I could see where all these cars are. No hacking. No reverse engineering. Just an exposed API. Worst part? My own car is in that dataset. We definitely have developers in Kenya who could build secure, modern tracking platforms instead of relying on insecure white-label systems.

@MichaelKNku @njoguamo @SirJayliste @fbiego_ Since odoo & traccar provide different services, you'd still need to run both. @njoguamo's suggestion is for efficiency purposes i.e instead of calling traccar API continuously, you setup a webhook url & let traccar dump data to odoo whenever the data is available

@njoguamo @SaucepanRex @SirJayliste @fbiego_ Ok. Maybe we shall consider this when we migrate to latter versions. It makes sense since we don't have to maintain 2 servers i.e. odoo and traccar. The vehicle trackers, fuel monitors and asset trackers can all send data directly to odoo. Thanks.

The biggest problem with sharding , and one nobody warns you about early enough is something called a “hot shard”. A hot shard happens when one shard ends up receiving way more traffic than the others. For example, imagine you split users by the first letter of their username: A–M on shard 1, N–Z on shard 2. It’s looking likes it’s balanced, bah ? But imagine if 80% of your users fall into A–M, shard 1 becomes overloaded while shard 2 is just chilling. You’ve technically sharded your database, but you’ve simply moved the bottleneck from one database to one shard. A good sharding strategy is about distributing data so traffic stays as even as possible across all shards. This is where techniques like consistent hashing come in, they help keep things balanced. Now here’s the thing: most Nigerian startups don’t need sharding yet. But understanding it early means you’ll design your system in a way that makes sharding possible later, without rewriting everything from scratch. That’s the real reason to learn this now, not when it’s already a problem. T for thanks 👍🏾

Database sharding… Most devs hear this and immediately think it’s some super complex concept only top-tier companies should care about. But honestly, it’s not that deep. If you’re building anything in Nigeria that’s going to scale, you should at least understand what it means. I’ll break it down very simply in the next two tweets below only

Hot take- the biggest barriers to trying new hobbies in Kenya is elitism. Cyclists geeking over bikes, hikers flexing salomons, car guys making it about status. If your community scares beginners, it’s not growing its gatekeeping

@SaucepanRex @axmedalxender 90 % of the websites don't require a database. They are not application driven nor do they store user's data. So once again I ask ,how are they a security nightmare ?
