Celebrating Everyday Enablers 📣 We know that Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) are beneficial for expecting mothers, but how is the word spread in LMICs about these benefits? Meet Rohima Khatun, the Ducter Apa from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 Since 2019, Rohima Khatun has been working as a Gold Star Member (GSM) with Social Marketing Company (SMC) at the Sachetan Society in Lalpur, Natore. Before she joined SMC, she was a housewife and an occasional teacher. Then she signed up for the GSM training offered by SMC that included an orientation on MMS. Today, she is known as Ducter Apa (tr: ‘doctor elder sister’) at her society, counseling pregnant women on antenatal care (ANC) services, nutrition awareness and the importance of institutional delivery. 🫱🏾‍🫲🏿 After receiving orientation on FullCare, the MMS brand in Bangladesh, Rohima Khatun has guided many pregnant women in her catchment area. A few of them have already delivered babies with good health outcomes, while the rest are regularly receiving FullCare from her. @Euromonitor asks how to boost snacking in Asia? The answer is: DON'T. Eating between meals is a major contributor to obesity, and processed snacks are usually unhealthy ultra-processed foods. Please don't contribute to ill-health and waste.

So useful to see all of the (observational) evidence on ultra-processed foods together in one place. One could imagine that the evidence on each specific outcome could be disputable... but taken together, it looks overwhelming. Clearly desirable not to eat these products.
Dr. Melissa M Lane@drmelissalane

Our latest paper out today in @bmj_latest with editorial, we report on the observational meta-analytic evidence associating ultra-processed foods with a range of health outcomes. bmj.com/content/384/bm…
