Press Release: Statement on Line of Duty Death of OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali It is with great sadness that we inform our Membership that OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali, Dufferin County Detachment, Central Region died in the line of duty today while working with the James Bay Detachment, North East Region. The circumstances related to the line of duty death are under investigation by the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch. Our thoughts are with the Member’s family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. OPP Association President David Sabatini stated “This is every police and family member’s worst nightmare. This is another reminder of the dangers that our Members face each and every day as they serve and protect the citizens of Ontario. On behalf of the OPP Association, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Provincial Constable Bali’s family, friends and colleagues. It is with deep sorrow that I advise an OPP officer was killed while on duty along Highway 401 in Cobourg this afternoon. Our thoughts are with the officer’s loved ones and with OPP members during this devastating time, as we grieve the loss of one of our own. As notifications are still underway, the officer’s identity will be withheld at this time. The circumstances surrounding the incident continue to be investigated. We ask that the public join us in keeping the officer’s family, friends and colleagues in their thoughts as we navigate this profound loss. -- C’est avec une profonde tristesse que nous vous informons qu’un agent de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario (Police provinciale) a été tué cet après-midi alors qu’il était en service sur l’autoroute 401, à Cobourg. Nos pensées accompagnent les proches de l’agent ainsi que les membres de la Police provinciale en cette période éprouvante, alors que nous pleurons la perte de l’un des nôtres. Les avis aux proches étant toujours en cours, l’identité de l’agent demeure confidentielle pour le moment. L’enquête sur les circonstances de l’incident se poursuit.
