It's been a month since this tweet and my stance on Cameron Boozer hasn't changed, if anything, I've only felt more confident with it. If you want to hear more about why that is then my evaluation on Substack is out and linked in my reply.

I've been deeply considering Boozer's case for the number one spot over the last few weeks, one that revolves around his future as a shooter and I was starting to see the vision but upon further examination...nah y'all. I still think the sheets heavily misrepresent this prospect

@abditmr I don't think it's a coincidence that all of KAT, LaVine and Wiggins had their defensive development stunted. That Minnesota environment was horrible.

@Savcon3 Don’t necessarily disagree with the general thread but it took Wiggins 7 seasons to not be a flat out negative defensively that’s not really a great example

@erstimus61614 Do you think it was a natural improvement or him giving consistent effort for the only stretch in the entire season, something he's hinted at to the press, relating to the on-ball technique. Didn't catch my eye tbh.

@Savcon3 + not a preemptive passing lane demon like that. I do think he meaningfully improved his on-ball technique throughout the year though, the contrast between the first game vs villanova and some of the later tourney games was massive

@erstimus61614 I agree but BYU's aggressive defensive scheme being less effective with Dybantsa because of how valuable his inconsistent effort and suffocating physical tools lines up with what I've seen and indicates untapped potential for the future to me.

@Savcon3 he's not incapable of it as you've shown in the clips above, but his default defensive approach against mobile perimeter players was screen unders when possible, leaving a reaction gap and relying on his length to contest

@erstimus61614 You didn't see him apply a ton of pressure on the ball, be disruptive and force deflections on the tape?

@Savcon3 I don't know about the +DTOV% influence. The sample size isn't very high, and his steal production in HS and college doesn't back it up, and neither does the film with fTOV, ball pressure, or deflections.

@FinnDraft Unlikely, but very possible. He created a lot of deflections with his physical tools and effort, with more play recognition and better positioning, the path is clear.

@Savcon3 The off sample is a little over 300 minutes, and he doesn't get STOCKs. The chance he positively influences DTOV itl is very low.

Both of his FIBA seasons show him being a consistently good defender the whole time, like there's so much useful flashes out there that entail growth here. I am way more optimistic on his defense than Boozer.

His physical tools are insane and he has more effort than most star "one-way" prospects, it's just a lack of understanding, we've seen this a million times before. Wiggins was this same thing. You can fade Dybantsa without being so hyperbolic.

@matwnba @vevosuave How does someone with "feathery touch" shoot 56% at the line with no touch passes in his bag? His release point and velocity benefits his passing, not touch, and I don't think the hook shot is that great.

@Savcon3 @vevosuave black hole is harsh given how he was deployed next to yax and cadeau as a play finisher, obv feathery passing and touch but I'd like to see more skip passing, regardless he's a great bet at 5 given the defensive projections

@vevosuave Gets treated like a coughing baby on the offensive glass at his current weight, doubt he gets back to his UCLA body where he couldn't even play 10 minutes without getting super gassed, had cinder block feet then too. x.com/Savcon3/status…

I'm not sold on Mara's post game yet, got way better for the MM tournament but his core strength and ball control are comically bad atm. That hook that he has to spam isn't consistent enough and the passing juice is extremely overrated. I'd take a chance after like pick 20 tho.

Mikel has looked clear of all the other PGs in this class for months, separating himself as the 4th best prospect overall to me but now everyone wants to hop on the train because of "combine measurements"

Smart is using every tool, trick and a decade’s worth of grime-ball wisdom in this series on Shai. Genius ball denial, top locking, heroic endurance, staying disciplined on scams, using that veteran heavyweight boxer tactic of leaning on you constantly to slowly wreck your legs.

If a player has awesome measurements at the combine but somehow it didn’t translate at all to in game performance - I’m staying unmoved or might even get lower, since it prob means the other unstated movements factors are that more damaging.

I really don't think Keyonte needs to leave for this team to reach its fullest potential, similar to Simons, he just needs to buy into a role that helps the ecosystem and that isn't hard to imagine for me. I'll always root for players like him to prove the nerds wrong tbh.

And as much as I've loved every second of Hardy basketball in the regular season, his style could be way too gimmicky and chaotic for the playoffs, where the game is stripped down and strategies are set. If he's a fraud then the team goes down with him. It's his creation.

WAS, MEM and CHI are all optimal destinations for any of the consensus top 4 prospects. However, the Jazz need DP way more than anyone else. They already have Ace, Lauri, JJJ and Kessler; none of the other prospects add to that frontcourt. If DP at 1 is likely, I'd trade up.
