Ahmedabad - In a major sensational heist, ₹8.70 crore has been stolen from the RBI Currency Chest of Bank of Baroda on Gandhi Road, with CCTV footage of the theft surfacing today.The accused, Harsiddh Kadiyar, who had been working as Joint Custodian in the bank for the past 15 years, has been identified as the prime suspect. Police sources say Kadiyar committed the theft driven by greed for a luxurious lifestyle.According to the investigation, on the night of 13 January 2026, Kadiyar deceived security personnel by claiming he was going out to dispose of scrap material in a box. Instead, the box was loaded with ₹8.70 crore in cash. He allegedly walked out of the heavily guarded currency chest with the money.Believing that CCTV footage is automatically deleted after 90 days, the accused continued to report to work normally for three months. However, the footage has now been recovered and has become crucial evidence in the case.A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Police are probing whether Kadiyar had any accomplices and are tracking the movement of the stolen cash.
