#WATCH | Delhi: On heat wave, former WHO Chief Scientist, Dr Soumya Swaminathan says, “…a large part of India is very vulnerable to the impact of heat…the kind of temperatures we are seeing now are very close to the limit of human tolerability. We need a multi-sectoral response to this extreme heat, which is a threat to lives as well as livelihoods…it's not only the health centers which need to be prepared…beyond the health sector, we need action across multiple departments and ministries. It's a right time for India to set up a heat commission, a commission that will make recommendations on what should be the interventions that we have to put in place to protect lives and livelihoods…humid heat is actually a bigger threat to health, because the body is unable to cool itself down…we need geography specific definitions of heat wave and we need to heat warnings and individualized heat recommend guidelines, guidance to people…once you're into a heat stroke, then it's very rapidly can become fatal.”

VIDEO | Armed with 'AC helmets' and portable fans, Delhi Traffic Police personnel are battling long hours on duty under the blazing summer sun. Offering a welcome respite from the punishing heat, the cooling headgear is providing much-needed relief to personnel enduring extreme temperatures on the capital's busy roads. Currently being used on a trial basis, the 'AC helmets' and fans are part of a wider effort by the Delhi Traffic Police to ease the strain on personnel working outdoors during the harsh summer months. VIDEO | Speaking to PTI about the Ebola Virus, Dr. Abhishek Tandon (@drtandon07), Pulmonologist at Medanta, Lucknow, says, “Ebola is a viral disease. It spreads if a person has touched an infected patient or come into contact with any contaminated material from an infected patient. This disease can spread not only from humans to humans but also from animals to humans. Like any viral infection, the symptoms of Ebola include common cold, fever, joint pain, and generalised body weakness.” Further, Dr. Abhishek says that over the past 10 years, Ebola outbreaks have been reported in different regions of Africa. Due to advancements in modern science, vaccines and monoclonal antibodies have been developed for previous strains of Ebola. However, the current strain is concerning because it is new. For this strain, neither a vaccine nor a fully effective treatment is currently available. At present, treatment remains mainly symptomatic. For example, if a patient has fever, sore throat, cough, fatigue, sweating, vomiting, or diarrhoea, they are considered a suspected case, especially if there is a history of recent travel. If a person does not come into direct contact with the patient or with objects handled by the patient, they remain safe. Therefore, if such a patient is identified, the first step is isolation and quarantine. Healthcare workers must use personal protective equipment while handling the patient to prevent transmission. The most important precaution is to avoid direct contact with the patient or with contaminated objects. #EbolaVirus #EbolaOutbreak #PublicHealth #GlobalHealth #WHO

More than 100 died of heat stroke in the last 3 days. India is going through one of the most intense summers. One district in UP already recorded 48*C. PM must, at least now, revise his decision to cut lakhs of trees in Nicobar. No point in turning Nicobar a desert.
