One game. One coach watching. That’s all it takes. Coach @johnscanz8 of @CamdenCC_BSBL and @ScanzanoCombat shares the story of a player who thought a D3 coach didn’t matter… but that coach was starting his new job at a Division 1 school the very next day. If that kid had jogged through reps or played with an attitude, he would’ve blown an opportunity he didn’t even know was there. 📌 You never know who’s watching. I had the privilege of speaking with @JHattenstein , @johnscanz8 and @SVCCoachHowell on the Student Athlete Performance podcast today and had to share some common themes from them: 1. College coaches talk. If they like a player but they aren't a good fit for them - they will send them to someone else. If they do NOT like a player and another coach asks about that player - they will tell them "Don't do it!" 2. Relationships are everything. Relationships with your high school/travel coaches. Relationships with college coaches. You never know when a great opportunity might come up because you CHOSE to build a relationship with a coach. 3. It's not just about skill. It's about the Right Fit. If you are not a right fit (including culture fit) for their program - they don't want you. 4. There's no 'I' in team (seriously). They don't want players who are only in it for themselves. Championships are won with teams, not a bunch of 'ME's'. 5. In the current recruiting landscape, JUCO is one of the best opportunities for players to develop who want to play college ball and give themselves the best shot at D1.
