While we’re talking about doctors & their insufferable sense of superiority, a brain surgeon stayed at my house & put flour in his coffee bc he thought I kept powdered creamer in a big jar on the counter with a huge scoop in it.
They’re not as smart as they think they are. Ever.

@PeaceRoseShephe Also, funny advice- Don’t eat anything messy when you’re still loopy and/or numb. I ended up spilling ice cream on myself and had no idea until my mom told me 😂

@PeaceRoseShephe Don’t try to tough it out. Take the pain meds, it helps the healing process. Sleep on your back if you can so you don’t wake up with a sore face. Here’s my ESA that helped me through mine. I hope you have a successful surgery and an easy recovery

@DiaryofaSickGrl My aunt (by marriage) decided I was too young to be anxious and I should try yoga. This was months after EMERGENCY BRAIN SURGERY THAT MADE ME LOSE MY BALANCE. Me trying to do yoga would probably end in disaster

@SchnauzerCleo Yes please do, they are so ridiculous, but preferably followed by rage, bc they sent a supervisor to apologize & people who have family members killed don’t always get that curtesy, so now I’m big mad ;)

@Judith652 I’ve had to admit to some pretty embarrassing symptoms/injuries and no one at the hospital has been phased. Believe me, they’ve heard worse.

Yesterday I went to a funeral of a work mate who passed away at the age of 46 with cancer. He had been bleeding from his back passage for near a year and didn't go to doctor because he was to embarrassed. Men please dont be embarrassed get any wee thing looked into

@sheologian @WakeMed Same with the food at the hospital that I’ve been in for all 5 of my brain surgeries. I remember saying “idk why hospital food gets a bad wrap, this is great” while post op lol

None of these illnesses are rare or mistakable to an experienced provider. If you don't understand them, that's a you problem.

Over-diagnosis / misdiagnosis / self-diagnosis of EDS, MCAS, POTS, & Lyme is a real problem, and it would appear that there is little appetite by medical professionals to discuss this issue publicly.

@StinkRatsCharms @DisbldUrbanFarm So it’s not just me?!?! Every neurologist I’ve ever had has been average at best and a couple were absolutely awful putting me on the wrong meds and making me worse. Thankfully neurosurgeons are a little different in my experience otherwise I wouldn’t be alive and typing this

I literally had a neurologist write me off and tell me to go shopping 3x a day like his wife, and I'd feel better. I have MS. This feels like a *wildly* generous way to describe whats often happening bt doctors and patients (or more accurately, to patients at the hands of docs)

Disabled people don’t owe you our medical history and diagnosis. You’re not entitled to know “what’s wrong with us” just because our disability is visible. Then if we flip the tables and ask you what your medical history is, you get defensive. It doesn’t feel good, does it?

@AmiEverAfter I was supposed to be admitted for one night after abdominal surgery, but, to quote my PACU nurse, “they didn’t have to do what they thought they’d have to do” and I got released to go home once I was awake and feeling okay. Hoping you have similar luck

I am built different and fully expect to be able to travel less than 24 hours after major abdominal surgery.

So I just realized I misunderstood my preop instructions and was supposed to plan to stay two nights…so the surgeon and I will be having a negotiation in the morning since my ride can only stay one night. 🙃
